yeah, they get 1/2" of snow and the entire city shuts down. We get 10 feet of lake effect a year and consider it normal. For many people, adding the mud flaps is all about the "look" or about making the car easier to keep clean, but for us in the depths of the snow belt, they are very much about function. When the snow comes back, which it will, keep an eye on how much less slush/water/dirt is in your garage. I noticed a huge reduction when I put the mud flaps on our Escape.
Since I had trimmed my front mud flaps short to work with my 2011 Fiesta after I lowered it, I was getting some ice buildup just under the rear doors from the gap between the bottom of the mud flap and the ground. I bought some thin rubber from McMaster-Carr and extended the mud flaps. It works great because the rubber is flexible enough to touch the ground around corners without causing that horrible sound.
