"Although Sync 3 will have the capacity to take Wi-Fi updates just like a smartphone or tablet, Ford won’t be able to upgrade existing vehicles."

Bummer. Don't mind my Sync system, but it does glitch sometimes and is not the easiest to navigate. My dad's 2012 Acura MDX has the worst system I have ever experienced, intuitively. You need to take a college course to figure out how to change the radio station.

Hopefully (I doubt it) we'll get an update to use that system. Not hardware wise, but software.

We do have an SD slot. I could see that being an avenue for updating our Sync system, but then again, Im no IT whiz.

Speaking of Sync: When I had my iPhone, it never had a problem wirelessly linking with the FiST. Now that I have a Windows phone (aka the same company that developed Sync for Ford) it will connect for a couple weeks and then reset to not recognizing the device. What a bag of butts.

Neat looking system the new sync.
I'm mostly happy with our sync functionality wise. Although I hardly use the voice commands tbh. My main thing with the current system is Bluetooth audio streaming from my android is a bit sketchy. The phone audio often won't resume with out fiddling which i find annoying. The iPhone seems to work better but as they are super common you'd probably expect that. I even dusted off an old iPod nano and use that as an in car jukebox. That works really good too.

No real complaints with the Sync. My iPhone connects flawlessly and works great. Voice recognition in my iPhone is flawless, voice recognition with Sync is at best most times a waste of time. Entering in designations by hand is the only way I do it. Rest of system is attractive with great graphics and responsive touch screen.

The Sync 3 is a complete hardware change to use QNX as the OS. QNX is an ARM base architecture OS where Miscrosoft (current Sync) is not. I don't have any issues with the older Sync (2008 and 2011 Edge) miles ahead of the auto industry standards but the new features look good.

The MFT System does use an ARM-based processor, reports indicate it's likely a Freescale i.MX516 running at 600 MHz with 512 MB memory, and 2GB NAND flash storage. So while technically the hardware is platform compatible; it's more likely that the speed and memory specs make it underpowered for the needs of the Sync 3 OS. To draw a comparable alluded to in the linked review, it's like having an HTC Incredible from 2010 try to run Android 5.0. Possible? Yes. But nobody will want to deal with a system that slow.

my FoST SYNC first one on the lot back in '12) was HORRID. glitch monster. would randomly reset, took 3 big updates to FINALLY stop being glitchy....then I got the FiST. it's FINE. i like it. I HATE the inability to type when I am driving in nav...lol.....i know i know....whatever, but otherwise its SOOOOO much better. Trust me be glad u didn't get the FoST early OS. it sucked.

I'm fine with it now :)
