Order placed ....awaiting arrival! Hopefully it's not a meh mod. Can't wait! It would be awesome if there was some type of directions and tools needed to do the modding on the shroud. Food for thought....

I'd be worried, what with blocking that much air from the radiator.
i agree, especially with the oil cooler. I'm going to pass on this and may be pick one up on the used market, because I'd hack it up. I'd cut off the mounting boss to get a flush fit and just put a screw on top to keep it in place with the OE inlet and I'd hack off the long snout and get it close and almost flush with the OE shield, to not compromise any air flow to the radiator. the thought of cooler intake air is nice, but a good performing and efficient intercooler is what really matters.

True, but cooler IAT increases the turbochargers efficiency, and that's something that no FMIC can do. I would even go as far as saying that the bellmouth would increase efficiency in flow (and therefor turbocharger efficiency) as well. In theory, the combination of both of these in comparison to the OEM setup should yield results.

Whether there's a measurable result is yet to be seen despite requests, and whether that possiby-measurable result is worth the cost is also something different entirely. Quite honestly though, I don't think 95% of the people that buy these are buying them for actual data-supported reasons. It looks cool, and just like all of the people that jumped on the Injen intake, a product will exist for those that are willing to pay-beneficial or not.

But realistically, all professional-racing turbocharged racecars have the turbo inlet sitting directly in the ambient air for a reason-to allow them to tune based on the turbo working at its most efficient rate possible.

Maybe when I own a professional-racing turbocharged racecar, I might have the mindset and or budget to give a darn.

True, most of society would rather live on the illusion of knowledge than to actually know things, which is weird considering just how easy it is to find information these days.

The FoST guys consider it an aesthetic mod so those that approach it with the same mindset should be happy with the purchase. I would buy this before I would buy an Injen intake any day of the week-I just wouldn't buy either under the assumption that I was going to make more power. Dat torque-targeting ECU, doe.

I'm interested if it will make a measurable difference. I have four visual mods: two sets of wheels with tires for the season, a shift knob, and wing risers. I may pick up the Mountune splitter. And really, the wing risers are the only thing I consider functionless; I'm not big on the visuals. I've learned from the Cobb intake and vicariously, the Injen; don't buy on hype.

Of this I too agree.
That was the point of my statement.
Drawing air from outside the engine compartment I believe is much better.
I never expected it to provide more power but again clean, cool air can't hurt.

Agreed. There's a fundamental difference between 'can't hurt' and 'won't help' when it comes to spending money on performance, especially for those that think there is or are looking for a performance increase. And realistically, if there is a measurable gain then that's a marketable feature.

Hey guys, I hear your concern. I dont design parts just to look cool. My old job for 8 years as an aerodynamicist forces me to design airflow components with extreme details, that's all I know.

The ram air intake is not just a cold air source. It is designed to convert the motion of your car into usable static pressure in the airbox. The larger the frontal facing the inlet, the more potential flow there is to be realized. The design of a ram duct is not easy, I have spent years mastering CFD analyses and years learning applied compressible flow physics on the job with turbine firms. I use everything I know to make my ram inlets. The convergence angles, divergence angles, flow path areas, bellmouth compound radius and the list goes on and on.. What I have to do behind the scenes is very work intensive, and thought intensive. It takes someone with experience in design flow paths to design a proper ram duct, you cant just slap a tube on your car and expect to gain any usable stagnation pressure.

With that said, testing is also a challenge. Since a ram duct can't be tested on a dyno. The intent of a ram intake is not cold air, although that is a good byproduct because it sits so low and far away from the radiator. The intent is to gather fast moving air at the high pressure zones in your car, and convert that high pressure air into static pressure in your airbox. To test this requires high speed vehicle runs which are dangerous and can be costly for people to do. I have developed in-house methods to test the intakes. So far we have seen a nice increased chunk of mass air flow at vehicle speed. I am not going into details yet as there is more information to be gathered.

The mod is not just aesthetic. You can have a functional performance part, look very good too. I know it is hard to believe! But I offer these types of products because of my manufacturing ability. A lot of people are not used to the combination so it is hard to accept something that looks so cool, also performs like nothing else on the market today.
