I'm surprise not to many members have a ulitmate racing TBE . I believe this is the one true full 3inch exhaust . I heard the clip of the resonated tbe. I wonder how the non resonated sounds. It's tad expensive but good quality. I had their dp and race pipe on my old speed3 and it sounds nasty .

So here it is. It's been an ordeal, but I've got a completely finished product. I have some body work I'm going to do to fix the melty bits, but I'll get to that next week. Running with out the tips was ALOT louder and very droney. Adding in the tips quietened it down significantly but added a bit of rasp. All in all, I'm happy with what I've got, and would gladly do it again.

So what is the in cabin sound like generally? That sounds pretty civilised to me, I like the non reso sound. That is what I've just bought. Well done. Btw whats happened in that last photo?

In its current state, it's actually really nice in the cabin. It's a good balance between the intake and exhaust. It's quiet enough that I still can clearly hear the sound symposer and intake. Driving around town normally it doesn't make much noise.

That last picture is the result of running without tips. It wasn't intentional, summit just dropped the ball on them.

Very cool!

I love a nice exhaust but not to loud and really hate drone, it sounds like you got it just right:):)

I think that might make two DIY FiST exhausts now, both full 3", small crowd that we are.

Hi All
About to throw down for Milltek's catback exhaust (along with FMIC, air filter, tune) . How important is upgrading the downpipe in the grand scheme of things? Would there be much of a difference or am I losing out on the stock's restrictive dimensions?
Cheers.

You would probably see more gains out of the down pipe than the entire cat back. Either way your looking at a solid stage 2 setup, but the downpipe would push you up to a stage3.

The downpipe is significantly more important than the CBE on the OEM turbo in regards to performance. The stock CBE isn't restrictive and gains by changing it will be minimal at best.

Installed my Cobb CBE yesterday. Already had the Cobb DP on there. There is zero drone. I came from the Fox body 5.0 days with off road h-pipes and American thunder flowmasters. Now that is drone. Sounds relatively stock until you goose it. I was afraid of having that cheap four banger exhaust sound and this is definitely not that. Kudos to COBB. I am using the stock hangers and motor mount and don't have any interference issues. The system does have some adjustability, I just made sure to line up the flanges as best as possible.

Has anyone used the Ford Racing axle back(Borla rear section)? Part number is M-5230-FAB. I believe its just the rear section of the Borla catback. I know the stock exhaust is 2.25" and the Borla catback system is 2.25". I just want to replace the muffler and tips with something nicer. Just wondering how much louder it is or should i just bite the bullet and grab the full Borla/Ford Racing kit?

My 3" turboback combo, CP-E Catless downpipe + MBRP exhaust. Injen SP intake as well.
I like the sound from the outside but the interior is a bit too loud for my taste.
Been running this setup for about 6 months now.
I wonder if I could silence it a bit because the vibrations really resonate inside the cabin. Highway is pretty tolerable surprisingly, fairly drone free if I'm just on cruise control at the speed limit.

I have the MBRP with catless DP and agree with you, justinsane. Sounds awesome from the outside, but it's just too much from the inside. I'm thinking of building a Helmholtz resonator for it like CP-E did on their cat-back. I'm not a sound engineer or anything, but I have access to a mandrel bender and a welder so what's the worst that can happen haha.

So I received my Injen CBE today. It looks great, I haven't installed it yet, just inspecting it and I have two mentions for anyone looking into getting it. It's 3" except for the first inch or so coming off the flange that bolts to the DP. That looks to be 2.5" or 2.75" I haven't measured yet. The other thing is the tips options, one is a titanium burnt looking tip and the other is raw which is what I opted for. The tip is actually polished and not raw so just a heads up on that. I'm still really excited to get it on and down the road I'll modify it to full 3" not that I'll notice anything at this point.

Really wish they wouldnt put a fart can on the back of an exhaust. Use a regular muffler.

If anyone is looking for this piece its only $406.20 at Levittown Ford. Link is listed below. Shipping was only $20 which puts this almost $100 off any other place ive found.

Link does not work.

How about buying a the muffler you like with tips or tip and have it installed?

It should be less cost and a pretty easy job for any decent muffler shop, just make sure no crimped pipe is used.

If keeping the stock turbo then you would be just fine on size, less drone, etc.....

I have not look inside the stock resonator to ensure how big it is, what the core is like, etc.....but it seems to be just fine, any inputs on that would be helpful.

Here is the correct link. $406.80 plus $20 shipping. Great deal and i will be installing this as its made by Borla for FRPP. The factory resonator is nothing but a fiberglass packed tube with a perforated core. Stock piping size is 2.25" so no need for the intermediate pipe from Borla.

Ill post up some results and a video once i get it installed.
