EVAP Purge Valve

I have been having an issue sporadically where the car stalls when idling after filling the tank up with gas. From my research, this is common with the Fiesta and Focus. See my questions below:

1. If I take the car to the dealership would it be covered under the 8 year 80 000 mile federal emissions warranty? My car was purchased 3.5 years ago and has 20k miles.

2. Is it an easy fix for the dealership and what parts would they replace and what work would they do?

3. I do also notice a gas fume smell in the cabin periodically. Could this also be related to the purge value and would fixing the valve issue resolve this as well?

This is an issue that a lot of people have reported. One thing that helps is stopping at the first click when filling up the car, not topping it up. Have you been topping up your car?

I have not been topping. Is it easy for the dealership to resolve and would they give me a hard time about the 8 year emissions warranty. Do other people report the gas smell in the cabin in conjunction with this issue?

I have not heard other people report the gas smell. I'm not sure how dealerships resolve this issue.

I had that issue fixed back when still under warranty. They listed these two replacement parts on the work order: C1BZ 9C915 A and F2BZ 9C047 C

I'd like to add that I've experienced this issue again recently, but I'm guessing it due to bad gas or something because the issue is not consistent... I go to this one shell station, and I don't have any issues there.

Also, I've noticed that there's a reduced probability of stalling if I wait until the fuel light turns on before I refuel - I can't figure out what the correlation is exactly.

Is there anything else specific I should ask? Would the purge valve job also include the hose assembly that's part of the purge value or is that something else? What about replacing the solenoid?

I actually just started experiencing this issue where she began having a rough idol before she started stalling. It sounds stupid, but I used a fuel cleaner on my (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B1VBQRS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) FiST and after about a half tank she's returned to normal. Again, sounds like a stupid side bar, but if you're experiencing the same thing I was it is a cheap solution.

I was thinking that a fuel system cleaner may help, but what if our issue has something to do with moisture build up in the fuel tank?

I know I've seen STP water remover at some point while shopping a couple of years ago... maybe I'll go and try that...

Gasoline floats on top of water* It is why you can dump gas into water and light the surface on fire. Save your money

Glad this was bumped. We've had a Purge valve error for the last 4 months on and off then on again. While searching for the part, we're given three different options on what it might be. Checking the specs for each part, we've concluded that our purge valve is not located in the engine bay. Instead if located more towards the gas tank and is nothing more than a little box with a canister valve attached to it. I can't verify this just yet as I would have to crawl under the van to actually see the part in question. Possibly tomorrow morning I'll do this before we head out. The Purge valve lifespan is roughly 4 years.. which mean its due for a change right now. make sure when comparing parts online of at the parts store, you're not sold something you don't need. Then upon returning the part to an online store or retailer, there's a hefty restocking fee. I've seen and heard of cases where customers are sold parts they actually didn't need or didn't fit on their cars, Find the purge valve on your car first then locate it online just to verify then order the correct part.

So I had a chance this morning to actually search for the canister purge valve. I was under the impression that it wasn't in the engine bay and more towards the rear of the van on the evap box.. but I was not able to locate that either. I suspect the box is hidden under heat shields covering the van's chases. however farther investigation shows that we do have the mangled mess of purge valve lines in the van as I had a chance to to see it when I was cleaning the throttle body.

what threw me is that most van owners are claiming this set up is located between the engine block and the battery.. in our case it isn't more over it's located between the engine block and the fire wall.. again this may not be the total cure as I would still need to replace the actually purge canister locate somewhere at the rear of the van.. at least I don't have to replace a whole mess of hoses and plastic parts to get to it.

just goes to show you how difficult it might be for you to locate your purge valve on your Fiesta.

Just to add.. with the CDK system being hacked (twice) I'll not be able to order this part until they get the system back online..

I (almost) hate this is a fav pet peeve - "you know what grinds my gears?" The box in the rear, cannister, EVAP, solenoid, charcoal c..., whatever, it's almost always that octopus in your photo. Not the STassy, and no idea on your van, but you've been getting your hands dirty - try buying the valve only from Rock, vaccum hose and clamp frankenstein! It was in $30s when I bought it, I know that assy is $150+.

Well checking prices.. the hose system image above would cost 78.00 while the actual canister will cost 30.00 bucks. Then add in the labor at our performance shop as I'm not able to work my clumsy hands into these tight areas to do the job myself.. we're looking at a little more than 200.00. the thing here is I'll have to have these replaced before Nov as the emissions test is coming up then.

what's so confusing about this is that when searching for this part, I'm left with 5 different part names/numbers and at least 3 different locations to install this on the van. So I suspect it's nearly the same thing on the Fiesta.
