I bough my FIST in december of 2016. My car now has gone through not 1 or 2 or 3 sets....COUNT THEM 4 actuator replacements..Thank god for my extended warranty...

my passenger side one has been clicking for an eternity and I just replaced it today. However, my problem is that air is only coming out of the defrost vents and not the ones I need in Texas (since I knew that one was bad, I had hoped it was the cause of my issue). Is the driver side one the one that controls this?

So are there two or three actuators? I find claims for both. The clicking on my 2016 seems to come from the center of the dash, neither driver or passenger side. I'm pretty sure it's not the passenger actuator. But if there is a center actuator it could be that. You guys who had the driver side go bad...where did it sound like it was coming from when you're just sitting in the seat? My warranty is gone and while I guess I can do it myself...at least I want to replace the right one.

Should be two. Pretty easy to determine which. Drop the glove box and unplug the one behind there. Then turn on the car and HVAC sys. If it no longer has the clicking sound, then it's that one. Pray it's that one.

For some reasons there's 2 different diagrams with different numbers. On the first one, you can select #19 and 20. Then on the second diagram, there's #22 which is in reality #21 on the first diagram.
The 3 parts have different SKU but knowing how convoluted things can get when they SKU parts and the fact that I never had these in hand, I can't tell you if they are indeed different parts or it's only the SKU.


The ones people change all the times are the driver side which is called the Air Distribution Actuator:


And the passenger side is the Air Inlet Door Actuator:


Finally, there's the Temperature Door Actuator, but I have no idea where it's mounted on the HVAC box and the picture in the service manual is not the most helpful for locating it:

Did anyone get clarity on the center actuator? My 14' started to only put air on the defrost, no clicking on either side of the dash.

GM uses the same unreliable setup. I cant believe they didn't use aluminum gears on the actuators, especially the temperature door actuator. It's constantly moving based on desired temp, actual interior temp and the sun load sensor.

Plastic isn't the problem, it's the type. I'm surprised at how the whole thing is geared. For fun I tried to move the inut shaft on the old one and stripped the internal gear. Couldn't even move to motor/worm gear!

If they Used aluminum * they wouldn't make any money. In the end its all about the dollars just like Joe Pesci said. Fomoco will get it to last just long enough to get outside 3yr. 36k warranty....

Except they don't last that long. Our first one was replaced under warranty. And the car is still in warranty for a while.

Replaced my passenger side yesterday. Easy job aside from bashing my forehead on that lower corner of the dash

Fixed my issue. Although My AC doesn't seem as cold as it used to get, thought the actuator might fix that. Guess I gotta check the refrigerant level / charge.
