I have been wanting to do a compound/twincharge type engine again (I have a compound turbo'd Cummins) but wanted to do it on the FiST. I do currently have a cyborg set up but like every other "gear-head" I want more power. I've done the big turbo small displacement before and turbo lag sucks ass, I'm not doing it again. Anyways, as the title lists, this supercharger can replace the alternator and starter; awesome, no added weight. This supercharger can be spun up instantly or anywhere in the powerband; awesome since most BT doesn't really do anything until 4000rpms. This, I believe, is the win-win for our small 1.6 displacement engine. I'm going to the junk yard this weekend to look for an intake manifold for the supercharged cobalt. (I'm spit-balling here) but I think with a little machine work, aluminum welding, 4 injector bungs and either boomba's or stratifieds port aux fueling we can have a very broad, flat, epic torque and power curve. Now I'm sure to really push the envelope for max power with this combo you'd have to go all in; I mean forged internals, ARP studs/bolts, upper cylinder girdle or custom MID sleeves, fire rings, copper head gasket, ect., but imagine, a supercharger with a dimmer switch...

Another thought is the 1.0 and 2.7 ecoboost with it's CGI blocks, I can see 300hp and 600hp, respectively, all day...

Good luck finding an LSJ in the junkyard, and those eaton m62's heat up like crazy. I'd be more interested in a stroker crank, big valves, and some turbo cams to spin a bigger turbo. Nonetheless, I hope you pursue it, could be very cool.

Just the intake to modify to use the EAVS, not using the outdated 62... I like the idea of being able to remove the starter and alternator with this system too, no added weight... Piper sells cams already for the FiST, four different stages I believe...

Those intake manifolds have those laminova cores in them too, its that whole water to air set up. I don't know about the whole EAVS set up but you'd have to add an entire extra radiator, lines, water pump, and tank if it's anything like the stock ecotec system.

You're right, and packaging extra water cooling radiators isn't going to fit either...

May be better off designing and getting a custom intake manifold made. Going to be hard to find anything that would work/fit

I haven't got a chance to look into this yet, but sounds like an awesome setup, who was this blower made for to begin with? Just the cobalt?
Damn turbo cobalts have kick ass resale.

Yeah the turbo cobalts are LNF's and are silly expensive still. But, they were the fastest fwd car around the ring up until just recently. I was a bit of an ecotec nerd before this.

You guys should look at the capability of this supercharger. This thing can replace the starter and alternator. It has the ability to spin up to full boost within a second. You can turn it on at low rpms and turn it off when the BT lights up! That sounds like a flat torque curve from just off idle to redline! I was only thinking of using the intake manifold from a cobalt to reduce fabrication time on a twin charged system. If you mount this where the alternator is you can boost with the supercharger from 1000 rpms to 3000 rpms then turn off the supercharger and let the BT continue to light up and take over! Volvo currently has a twin charge system, much power is produced from it's small displacement...

Volvo has posted some epic oem torque curves with that twin-charged 2.0L
And a certain fist part builder from Detroit area told me once that next to the AMG 2.0L with 355hp ( at the time; its now 380hp), it would one of the best built 4 bangers on the market.

That being said... Its a 2.0L and its oem. It would take an outlandish amount of fab/money to make it fit and integrate into the fist. I think... And I'm not a fan of this.... It would be cheaper to swap in a focus ST motor, lol.

That being said, if I can help with anything, just ask :)

On the comment about the fastest fwd car around the ring and the cobalt... I think that's because dodge never took a srt4 in production car support trim to the ring. Its true... I'm a bit of a srt4 nutswinger, but as this thread points out, there is no replacement for displacement. Put a turbo 2.4L from a large mexican sedan into a POS neon from the factory and its a beast. I do like the ecotechs. I've obviously looked into turbo cobalt's. But at the end of the day, they are two similar weight cars with similar size turbos and equal suspensions. Both have LSDs and good brakes. What's the difference ? 2.0L vs 2.4L
Mazdaspeed3 has disappointed me as a car for so many years now. I wanted that car to take the srt4's fwd crown. But its still the king of fwd tuner cars on the street. I made 354whp and 409tq on a modifed stock turbo and then made 407whp and 505tq when I put a 100shot on it. Stock cams, stock head, stock long block, stock intake, stock throttle body. Any motor that can take 24.5psi and 100shot ( for 13 bottles ) is gonna earn my respect, even if it is a dodge that doesn't say hellcat or viper on it :)

One more thing... My srt4 was 2940lbs without me in it. Roughly 200lbs more than my fist. It had 650cc injectors ( think like 62# injectors ). And it got 26.5mpg with a 5-speed. My DFI 1.6L fist with a 6-speed and 200# less weight gets 27.5mpg and is way less roomy inside. I'm not impressed with the fist MPG, essp if a big injector 2.4L from a decade ago with one less cog can nearly match it with 200# more weight to lug around.

But god this fist is more fun, no arguing that !!

That would be the wrong way to do it FYI. Being positive displacement you want it providing boost at all rpm as it makes your 1.6l engine act like a 2.2l engine so that you can spool and provide exhaust energy to run the turbo that would now be specced for the "larger" motor.

I was thinking electronic bypass that opens when supercharger is turned off. This bypass will give back the "donkey kick" low torque we love and want to keep then turn off supercharger and open bypass for the BT to continue; this way you can keep the stock rotating assembly. Constant twin charged (like you speak of) would definitely require forged internals. The thing is these electric superchargers and electric turbochargers are coming... Jag has a twin charged 1.6 making 550hp (@10k rpms!)... ha! I need to sleep...

Piper sells cams already for the FiST, four different stages I believe...
i could be wrong, but pretty sure the piper cams are for standard/ hybrid turbo, and not the correct profiles for a big turbo to speed up spool

volvo also now developed an air compressor to blast air into the exhaust side of the turbine to get quick spool. i am sure its old wrc tec updated

Damn! That would be even an easier BT fix! Back to brainstorming! Need to make coffee with my redbull...

no, you never bypass a positive displacement supercharger in a twin charged application. If you do, it means you have sized everything wrong
