So I saw this thread about the sound symposer delete kits that are 35-40$ and wanted to see if I could delete mine on the cheap.
First I had to unhook the cable for the engine block heater (comes standard for Canadian models) as seen in the picture under. Next I disconnected the vacuum hose displayed as 2. When both of these were out, I finally had the space to pull the unit out.
I highly recommend a pair of vise-grips that will clamp down on the hose-clamp without you having to hold them.
I plugged the hoses with bottle caps I had laying around. I fiddled until I found ones with the right diameter and voila ! Here's a detailed look at the final result. I ziptied the black cap to the hose that goes to the cabin.
Honestly, the difference is minimal from the short ride around the block I took. However it may be more significant when I hit the freeway this week.
EDIT: So I just went to university (20mins highway). And the major sound difference I see is the droneish/growling sound at 2000rpm in 6th when accelerating is gone. It's silent and I can hear the actual induction.
Additionally, in a WOT 3rd gear pull I popped off the cap off the intake pipe like I was Rick Ross popping rozay on a Friday night in the club. I predicted this would happen, so a plastic bottle cap is probably not the best. However I am sure I can turn on a lathe a delrin piece or even a wood one for under 5$. The black plastic cap that is in the cabin hose is fine however, because it has no boost/vacuum running through it.
