Coolerworx or mountune Plate and shifter extension?

Hi y'all! Hoping to find someone who tried both or maybe I can decide based off two people's detailed opinions lol. The shifter is too low for me and it's also vary vague in my opinion. My sim racing rig shifter is way notchier and heavier this feels like a toy compared to my real toy 😂.

Looking for good notch feel and extension. Should I get the coolerworx pro shifter? Or should I installed mountune Plate with an extension? Thanks

I had the Boomba Mountune combo and went to Coolerworx. Both are great but I prefer the Coolerworx. Throw is shorter than what you’d have with an extension and Mountune setup. Set the Coolerworx up correctly and it’ll last forever. I have the first gen and I’ve never had a problem.

There’s a new cheaper Chinese short shifter option. It’s not been around long but if you can get past its looks it might be worth a shot. Coolerworx and CAE have been around for a while. A lot of people bag the Coolerworx because it’ll break if you set it up incorrectly. The CAE is a huge bitch to install FYI. I’ve installed one of them too. I prefer the way the Coolerworx feels since it uses OEM shift cables.

If you’ve ever worked on a bicycle derailleur you can easily setup a Coolerworx shifter. If not, find a local bike mechanic to help. They’ll look at you crazy but eventually figure it out and it’ll be perfect.

Coolerworx here and love it. Biggest gripe is the shift knob is not hand friendly(with gloves is good). Install was a 1-2 hour job and then setup took me around 3-4 hours of fiddling with it. Feel is great, slightly notchy but not hard to shift and very firm positive shift engagement. Hand placement is excellent which was the biggest upgrade for me.

Another option is the new shifter on the market from WK Motorsports that people are raving about and is slightly cheaper than the Coolerworx:

It hasnt shown to have any problems yet which is nice to hear. The design is slightly more appealing with the reverse lock out in the front. It also comes with 3x shift knob options in the box.

Thanks for the derailleur comparison! I really didn't get any of the how tos until viewing it like that makes so much more sense

Realizing I can order parts off Amazon for $20 to make the extension and then the mountune is only 160$ it seems like that's the way to go. My only worry is how notchy it'll feel, and if I'll be able to get the mountune plate off if I ever go coolerworx?

EDIT: I'm hoping it's super notchy cuz I love that but I'd hate if it isn't and I gotta take the mountune plate off 😂

I don't have the extension on mine, but I have had the Mountune plate on the car for the past 7 years, and I love it on the street.

Just 'notchy' enough (for me at least), significantly shorter throws than factory, and about as good as could be expected from our cable shifted gearbox, until one steps up to one of the 'sequential looking' type whole short shifter assemblies mentioned above.

I would consider one of the above shifters, but I do not like the 'full race' aesthetics of them in a factory seats/steering wheel/full console FiST, nor their co$t, and then the anticipation of the impossibility of getting the Mountune shift plate off of the car is the final nail in the coffin of that consideration for me.
(It took me HOURS to install!)

Now, if I had a frequently/exclusively open tracked car, or a Limited 2WD rally prepped machine, it would be a requirement. [thumb] [driving] [raceflag]

I have and I actually like it's aesthetic. Just that even $500 is a bit much for a shifter imo not that it's over priced at all compared to even other cars. So far I installed am extension and I'm waiting on the little reverse lock out. I definitely like the height. Not as sloppy as I was expecting either so may go with the mountune plate shortly, after a weeks of thought...and research into people who uninstalled the plate lol 1000029292.jpg

Also you should do the Shifter cable bracket bushing and Shift assembly bushings too. It really brings it all together. I now run the Boomba entire short throw shift assembly piece that uses the OEM setup but no adapter on that Trans anymore. It The next step after adapters....The the next step Would be the Coolerworx or Wk motorsport shifter assembly. The Wk would be my Next shift mod to do if i ever wanna change. It seems better built and Nicer looking for the price. Good luck...Anything is better than stock. [driving]

So you run the boomba shift lever with no short shift plate? How was uninstalling the mountune plate? Also why couldn't you run the boomba shift lever with the plate? Thanks

As much as I liked the Mountune shift adapter plate I decided to go with a Boomba one instead on my New Transmission. The fact you must draw off the shift ball on the Shit linkage is a pain....But in my opinion worth it for all the adapters. But it makes it a pain to go back the shift linkage ball would need to be pressed back on. :rolleyes: But the Boomba shift assembly is very choice especially with carbon fiber syncros.

I'll probably be installing my mountune plate then later this week. It's been sitting in storage since I bought my Fiesta as I've been scared of reverting to stock but I doubt I'll have to ever revert. In the future I'll probably get the boomba shift lever to complete it, if my extension still makes it feel long. My setup will look like this as Ive ordered the extension from billetworkz after realizing the reverse lock not I ordered is kinda sharp/ugly looking. 1731424770199.jpeg

Installed the mountune plate today. Big difference. Throw is just right could maybe be a bit shorter but I love it rn. The extension makes reach perfect and comfortable, and with the plate it doesn't feel notchy, it feels like it takes a bit more pressure like there's less leverage and I really think it feels better. Maybe some day I'll do the boomba lever too but for now this works awesome! Install took 15 mins. Thanks for everyone's input
