Cobb intake release

I've been emailing to get information on the cobb intake release which from the smoking tire video, while it does not show the intake installed, looking at the parts on the ground I can assume that giant cone filter points down to draw cold air from underneath the car, with a heat shield on the top where the hose connects. I could be completely wrong, but this is my theory. I've heard they are trying to finalize supplies to ensure they don't run into production issues, however the way it sounded I don't think it's getting released this month :\

not this month, i don't think. parts are usually released the last thursday of the month and while i think we will get a FiST part this month it won't be the intake or FMIC

I think it's every last Tuesday, however it upsets me cause I'm wasting money on a dyno tune and then have to re tune for intake lol.

Cobb has been annoyingly slow with parts. im holding out till they have parts out to decide what ill buy, but time and again they are blowing through the weeks with nothing to sell. yet many other Co. are pumping out parts... what gives.

The Injen intake just needs moar heat shield to seal it off from the rest of the engine bay.

But I don't imagine you will have to wait too long for the cobb unit.

Since I had to reinstall my stock intake in order to show you all how to remove your stock intake and install the cobb one (it would be dumb if I showed you how to remove an injen and go to cobb lol), I gave my modified Injen intake w/revised heat shield to a friend.

I'm using a modified stock lower airbox and will be adding a Cobb hi-flow filter to that, we'll see how that performs, but I will say that like any SEALED air intake it does draw lower air temps in this configuration but is nowhere near as loud nor is the response as sharp as it was with the Injen unit

I'm personally waiting for their exhaust to come out. If they can beat Injen's unit to the market it'll be on my car! I did the same for the intake but we all know what happened there.

RMM...RMM...RMM...RMM...release your RMM, COBB!!! Stop lagging or else you'll force me to build my own RMM using delrin stock ordered from McMaster-Carr. 1 foot by 3" for $27.xx plus some lathe time. Also gonna use some of it to try and make a modified COBB Knob a bit taller than the COBB unit (still think it's too short). Little projects to keep me busy when work gets slow.

Joe @ 2J shipped my exhaust and mount today lol. His mount looks pretty decent too. JMS racing in San Antonio is giving me a 50% off a dyno tune and wants it for 2 days to play with it. He just got his protuner software last week and my fiesta is his first. Still waiting on horsepower direct to ship my intercooler. (ordered saturday), not in a rush, joe got the parts out fast though lol.

Unless they changed the design from the sema car, it just uses the OE lower box w/ a cone filter sticking down in it along w/ their hard pipe that replaces the rubber hose.

And why isnt anyone using this rmm? Two durometers are available too. Firm or Race

I have been considering what to do with the RMM, which is an improper name as cars have engines unless and electric car that has an electric motor......so our cars really have a REM, not RMM;)

Anyway, two pivot points, even if stiffened up, still let the engine pivot a fair amount unless the rear is locked down on these designs which does not appear to be the case.

I am considering a fixed mount on the engine side and then insert on the the other side thus limiting the motion a great deal more, or so it seems would be the case compared to other designs. It would be made to reduce some weight as well.

I have made quite a few engine mounts over the years, when I get done with building the DP and exhaust I might just tackle this, I already modified the drivers side mount to reduce its rather large stock range of motion.

Pics? Also, what steps did you take to modify it? I'll have to go look at mine later today and aquaint myself with it. I've been looking at building my own delrin "REM" insert in my free time at work but I've had the same nagging question about how much stiffer it'll be. Still, if 2JR claim it works well on their car I'm inclined to keep it simple. I would imagine a hard mount to the engine would cause NVH to soar.

There has to be some give for certain, first time I poured urethane mounts I used a very stiff material and it was like solid metal mounts, very loud and went right through you, great for a race car but not a street car. I drilled a bunch of holes into them and they were fine and lasted quite some time then later I rebuilt them with softer material, perfect.
I like the 2JR, looks like a good overall way of doing this.

the only people who have anything negative to say are STi guys upset that their motor done blow'd up. SPECIFICALLY STi dudes. That's not Cobb's fault, it's more that STi engines in particular are notorious for "Ring Land Failure"... whether or not you run a Cobb tune, and doing anything to your 40k car you've gotta understand that it's at its limits already, and pushing it harder tends to accelerate failure. This is why my buddy with a 300+whp WRX hatch got rid of it in favor of a Focus ST. He was a Subaru specialist and even was a well known parts retailer on NASIOC - anyways he got tired of a motor that would fail if you put anything but a certain type of Motul in it - and our Fords hold up to modifications a good bit better.

I agree, it takes a goddamn long time to get Cobb parts, but when you do get them, they do fit and function as promised.

I had a Forester XT with $30k in mods under the hood and JDM drivetrain, Stoptech brakes, etc.....but tuned it to last, 300ft lbs via 4.44 gears made it really jump off the line but top speed was not great as tuned to drop boost down higher in the rev range, very quick on auto crosses though and in SM class was a seond/third place car which is great out a tall heavy box.

At Miller Motor Sports Park, outer loop, I was hitting 123 on the short straights and 128 on the really long one, had enough time to think about making it faster, $15k engine build plus bolts ons, at least $20k total, swap to the sport style body for a bit better aero, $8k, I already had $60k into it and it did not make much sense to have a $90 Forester just to go a bit faster down the main straight so I parted it, traded on a street Vette, bought a race Vette for $35k....

Not sure the ST will be as quick in some areas since not running 285 slicks on a very well sorted out better than US spec drivetrain but it will be more fun. That car was so easy to haul arse through the turns it got boring, quickly. It still was fast enough that on the West course the head instructor came down from the tower just to check it out, when I was still on street tires, blew him away what it could do but still, I was done with it, moved on, first and last Subaru for me.

Out of all the cars I have built my 510 Datsuns and turbo Matrix were the most real fun, not the fastest but a blast to drive, even more so than the Miatas I have had. I think the ST will top them all when I really get it dialed in:)

I've heard good things about the mountune stuff, you may be able to use that to get more air thus making the Cobb Stage 2 OTS engine map possible. I'd research how much air that engine map wants first, but it could work.
