This has probably been answered in this thread but that's a lot of pages to go through. So I'd just like to ask how many people installed this themselves? I've never done a turbo swap on a car but I'll be damned if I'm paying anyone to do this for me for more than he price of the turbo itself. I have access to a lift but I have to install in one day. So I was wondering how long it took to change and how hard the removal and replacement is? Any little tips to make this go faster? I'll be doing all the work myself and with the help of my wife.
The biggest problem is some fasteners are balky and hard to get at. For example, when I removed my exhaust manifold, all but one fastener took the stud out of the head instead of just the nut coming off the stud. No biggie, soak in PB Blaster, clinch stud in vise at non-threaded middle, turn nuts off.
I also had a couple spare downpipe bolts just in case I broke one off in turbo exhaust housing, that seems a relatively common issue. Mine came out fine, but I did soak them overnight.
I put all the important fasteners back in with anti-seize, never know when you will be modding your own mods, make it easy on yourself. Big hands are a handicap, so is a bad left elbow and a bad back. Even with all those, Hijinks estimate of time is about right for your first one.
