Cyborg upgraded stock Turbocharger system

RAAMaudio was around 230 as well on 91 at elevation, IIRC.

can the numbers really be that affected by altitude? I live on the water I wonder if it really will make that much of a difference or not..

Very little my customer on Idaho (4500-5000ft DA) runs the same power at the same boost as one at 500-1000ft da.

I had a customer move from Utah to ca 4000ft da less and make 5whp more at the same boost.

I could go on but the diff is how much the turbo has to work. So unless the set up is very inefficient then it should remain close at equal boost and charge air temps.

Boost is boost, so to speak. Turbo works harder at a higher altitude, needs to spin faster because of the thinner air, compressor outlet temps will be higher. Exhaust temps rise too so you lose a little horsepower.
20psi at sea level and 20psi at 2000ft (boost) is well the same or maybe I have the physics wrong.

Sea level is at 14.7psia... I'm at 4000ft or 12.7psia...

Yup your right! 20psi of boost with a charge air temp of say 80deg is the same at 200ft da and 6000ft da. The diff is how fast the turbo has to spin which also can cause high exhaust back pressure. Thus me making the statement of it wont make a big power diff unless you have a very inefficient turbo system.

My customer in Idaho just set the fiesta record going 11.9@117.8mph in the 1/4 mile with a 3100ft DA. Why I don't post are talk about that like he could have gone faster is I have the same car at the shop with the same parts and the boost and temps but the DA is -300ft!!!! And guess what it went 117mph! It's math

I'm not kicking the cyborg, I wanted a small frame turbo because I've done the big turbo, small displacement and turbo lag sucks ass. Rodmoe is going down to a smaller turbo for that reason, he said he tried SCCA and it wasn't happy there. I know this small turbo, tuned right, is perfect in that short track/SCCA solo parking lot realm because of the low end "donkey kick" torque, not high rpm horsepower. I've never said anything bad to either side other than to state that before you buy figure out what you are going to use the car for and pick/tune accordingly. I just wanted the low end torque to extend a little further up the rev range while still keeping most of the low end torque it came with from factory. Having over 200lbft of torque from 2500rps to 6500rpms is what I wanted and it's what I got...

Russ, you're a drag racing guy, they sell the 4.31 ring and pinion for the Fiesta, it's calling your name!

I'm not kicking it either. You want a cheaper way to make 220-250whp easy this is the way to go. rodmoe did when a event with that car lol it is not that bad just he wants something that is more linear. Issac car makes 26psi at 3800rpm and holds tq to red line. That 3800rpm of useable power plenty for any autocross or road race guy.

Also labeling me a "drag race" guy is kinda funny. I ran my colleges autocross club for 3years and have been a SCCA member for 8years lol. I know just a little bit about it you could say.

Also every pro SCCA or road race teams look for linear hp increase with flat tq in there race cars. Having a turbo that will fall off or create a to. Of exhaust back pressure is not that.

But like I said the cyborg is the turbo for that power range and price you can't beat it. I was just curious about any customers making above 240-250whp.

I hope you weren't thinking I was knocking you! Not at all, I'm going not only from your avatar name but from what you've posted before about drag racing. I don't know you but I wish I was close to you because I know I would be right there working with you in all your endeavors! Knowing what I know now I would ask Sourskittles to make a cyborg with the same compression wheel but the factory turbine wheel so I could keep the donkey kick but carry it another 1500rpms instead of a torque spike...

I understand turbine compressor wheel details are trade secrets. Is your theory that the Cyborg torque peak could be extended by using stock (unclipped ) turbine wheel with larger compressor wheel to deliberately lag spool at lower rpm and shift the torque peak to higher rpm, or a theory of how to spread a higher torque peak over a wider range?

Why not just increase the turbine wheel couple mm?

My goal is moving the torque curve both wider and higher so more HP is usable to 6500, more a tracking interest than DD, I do not like short shifting to stay in stock turbo powerband when tracking, but don't want to loose too much street drivability in the compromise. I suspect I just do not understand the fine points of turbocharger design, appreciate any elucidation.

GT2554 still not finished tuning on 91. I've tried a modified turbo on my Focus as well as a honda and they are hit and miss mostly miss. It pure luck they get them right without paying a fortune to map them. 285 with a hybrid stock turbo will be near impossible.

Nice looking curves there and well behaved linear hp response from 2800~5200rpm...This is what I'm looking for and really interested in seeing your final results....

STeve what exhaust manifold are you running and who's tuning this?

very nice! Impressive results....Are you doing the tuning?
No Adam is. This is not my car it belongs to RobK. I helped him install the turbo and have been helping with tuning and setup. I'm trading my focus in a couple weeks and will be doing a GT2560 set up.It has a lot more in it. We are going to add a little preload to the wastegate actuator so we can add boost. This is was done on 22 psi
