Broken Hood Prop Stay / Clip / Latch

Officially Ford labels this part as simply, a "hood stay clip".

Mine looks different than those that are photographed here.

As a temporary workaround, I have velcro holding it into position.

Yeah I saw that. But I'd rather pay $16 for a part that works than waste my time with a $10 part that doesn't. (which is what I just did - it will get sent back however)

@CarGuy - LoL... yeah I meant to followup that a local dealer is offering the part for $10. I saw that high price via the Ford Parts website.

In a web search of the site for this very issue, I did run into those. Maybe it's just the OEM struts but it seems like literally every make/model hood I've been under that had lift struts, they were bad or going bad. I usually prop them up anyway as they tend to slam shut without warning. Still, nice over the first many years they work though.

Seen any hood light mods? Prior car's hood light worked flawlessly for the 20+ years I had it... never even had to replace a bulb!

Ashes to ashes... this too shall pass, as they say. Nothing lasts forever, and you at some point will have to replace the struts, but for now they have been working very well. In my experience, when these do fail, they don’t fail catastrophically — the hood or the decklid just won’t stay up and slide down.

The problem with those is you cant get the fuse box lid open. Speaking from experience here ( and now i have a broken lid 😥)

Might be able to snatch a lid from a junkyard vehicle? If the boxes happen to be unique to the 1.6L EcoBoost *and* the Fiesta, might have some trouble. But yeah, you definitely don't want too much humidity or water as it'll corrode the contacts. The road salt brine and salt-dust covers every surface everywhere. That's a fuse box's nightmare.

It's kind of funny how they make you take out the battery (or tie-down?) in order to get clearance on the fuse box lid. I found it to be flexible enough to get out, without pulling the battery (tie-down?). If yours broke, I might just quit using the workaround.

It hasnt been very wet, thank goodness. But i do need to grab a lid soon. Probably just going to order it due to the covid
