Hey everyone, I am looking to get an aftermarket turbo but want to keep my car as quiet and stock as possible. Don't really care about making big power, just want some decent gains. does anyone know if any of the aftermarket turbos don't require a downpipe? Was hoping to run an x47 hybrid turbo but couldn't find any solid answers.
Current mods...
cobb access port Dizzy stage 2 93oct tune
whoosh v3 intercooler
1 step colder spark plugs
cobb rear motor mount
boomba vent to atmosphere BOV

none of them absolutely require a non stock downpipe . Some tuners prefer if you run a aftermarket downpipe for the sake of flow optimization and power. You already have the larger intercooler .thats the important part.

One thing to note on the X47 is that it makes an unpleasant whistling noise. Not a problem if you’ve got an intake or exhaust as they are normally louder but it’s very noticeable with the stock exhaust and intake.

I ran the X47 with the stock cat back for years with no problems, but did have a downpipe.

Whistling noise? Unpleasant? The turbo whistle is one of the greatest automotive sounds there is! IMHO!

Only mods you really need for a turbo upgrade is a upgraded intercooler an aluminum radiator and E85 if available to you. Stock downpipe/exhaust flows well enough in my opinion.

For some reason, my stock radiator does great. Did a pull up to 140 and temps stayed under 205. Maybe if I did road courses. 1/4 mile they dont move more than 10 degrees. Only at about 23psi on S280 right now. More boost may call for better cooling.
