Are 1.6L Engines Interchangeable across models?

Hey there.

Lets say someone was interested in putting a FIST engine on a stand and rebuilding it as a project.

Would it be possible to pull an engine from an Escape with the same 8th digit vin (X), build it and then attach the manifolds from an ST?

The escape is the same engine. I believe down to part serialization. There was no change to the turbocharger, internals, etc.

Of course, the flywheel housing would be different due to transmission differences. I may be wrong though. I'm used to big trucks with lots of different transmissions on the same engine.

Found a good article, which also includes a good list of all the different vehicles this engine was used in, so one could expand their search of vehicles for a donor engine for said described project.
