Not sure I follow you on the reason to avoid coilovers if you live in a place where it snows. Is it because the muck gets into the perch threads?
FWIW, I have Bilstein B14. Haven't autocrossed yet but they handle better than stock and less bouncy. I can raise them to nearly stock height FWIW. Very happy
