Do you have any pictures of the floor of your trunk? I think this is what I want to do with the brace. What are the foam pads for?

I've done the same thing, minus the foam pads. The floor just sits on the tire and bar.

The foam compressed by the trunk tray helped with noise suppression.

I have since trimmed and reinstalled the plastic trim pieces and returned the trunk tray to the upper normal position. The tray is a little too short, front-to-back, in the lower position and didn't look right. I now use a backpack stuffed with an oversized hoodie (for just-in-case) to fill up space to the right of spare under the elevated tray to help dampen resonant noise.
