Surprised to see companies like Cosworth not getting into the FiST market with their IM.

What benefit besides heat dissipation does an intake manifold do on a turbo car?

The focus ST version of a different company's intake manifold said they gained 70whp switch from the plastic wonder to the new hotness (pun intended).

If that's 1/2 true, then its worth it ( which I only say because on the internet, all things are not always fully disclosed, looking at you ATP car running 12.4 ).

Tbreed or something like that builds the focus one I'm talking about. What is the cost on that thing !!? Its got to be $600-$1200.

What else did the ATP car have? Not surprised something was left out.

I like it, depending on price I would look into it just for the cosmetic change, hate the plastic fantastic theme of new cars.

I can't say... But that is the point. Right off the top of my head? It had slicks... Didn't mention that. Now... Most experienced guys like myself and a lot of members reallize that its going to take slicks to run a time like that in a fwd car. But it leaves the door open for more questions... Questions like....

Was the car fully gutted?
Did it still have AC ?
Did it have an LSD ?
How much boost?
What fuel?

I mean... Just lots of details that make a car that fast that add up. Maybe it was a full interior, bone stock + listed mods + slicks car. But... They had plenty of chances to show the car before it ran. Their videos have been edited with writing and chopped and cut.
Its not like they could have not put a 10sec clip in the "movie" that showed full interior and an engine shot. They could have... But didn't... Why no presence on the forum?
Why post 173 degree air intake temps on the stock intercooler with 3 pulls, when even in the worst conditions in the South east, we can't get them to go over 133degrees on road/auto cross courses ?

Just saying... Its not "full disclosure". Not saying they are bad or lieing or anything negative even. Just saying...

15.1@93mph (or what ever) to 12.40@113mph is very likely NOT JUST A BOLT ON TURBO, INTERCOOLER, TBE, AND AIR INTAKE away.

70whp gains from an intake manifold on a 260whp focus st, is also not likely all yhe story. I think he even said the focus had a bigger turbo on it, but still... We are talking about a 30% (give-take) increase in power from switching intakes.

Was there a throttle body upgrade in there? Was there a different intercooler?
Totally new tune?

All that being ranted :)
Its still worth $600 if it adds even 1/2 that claim !! 35whp on a 1.6L that already makes 200-215whp would be BAD ASS !! Plus, these intakes (both) look like amazing workmen ship with a CNC machine.

I wonder if porting the factory IM would help. The BOss 302 guys ported their stock 302 IM and gained some ponies.

I ported my exhaust manifold and turbine housing, but I'm too big of a wuss to pull my intake manifold, lmao.

The 1.4L chevy Cruz guys ate claiming a 7% hp gain from taking a dremel to the outlet of their intake manifold to get rid of a "bump". Allegedly, that bump was put there for "emissions" to make the air "tumble" into the cylinder. To look at it.... It looks like they were just trying make the car make less power, lol. So if a chevy 1. Turbo has some dumb crap in it, and our stock exhaust manifold doesn't line up from the factory, its not too far of a stretch to think they did something dumb to our intake manifold as well.

It most certainly will not make 70HP nor 1/2 of that, not really possible.

The stock manifold might be improved upon internally but is butt ugly on the outside, I will probably pull mine and take a look. I already ported the input to the section before the TB as it had an area needing it and was considering porting the TB a bit at least, maybe knife edging the throttle plate.

As as the stock manifold does not split, is not super restrictive, etc...plastic is a great material due to heat soak issues.

The aluminum manifold will pick up heat from the radiator, hoses, and head, how much and if a problem, that I do not know but it will and more so than plastic as it is a fare better heat sink and heat going in will come out the cooler side with air flowing over it.

It will cost a ton and weight a significant amount, most can better use the money elsewhere but once all the bases are covered it might be viable for some of us but I will not be a tester, only a buyer, if well proven in all aspects, not just advertising, backyard seat of the pants, etc......results.

Sure pretty though:)

I also took another look, it will not have a totally balanced flow to each cylinder, not good.

UNLESS, it is ducted inside for this and was tuned accordingly.

I am interested but not excited about it, not until much more is known.

I do like plastic intakes for their anti-heat soak properties. The hp claims were made by a seller, not by me. Just repeating what was posted :)

I know you know better than that:)

I knew the numbers came from somebody looking to make money by using such numbers but that is one really big stretch of the truth I am sure!
