alternative stage 1 maps?

So I just broke down and ordered an access port and filter from mod bargains. I'm looking to go stage 2 by the end of summer but for now and going to collect data and enjoy the stage 1. Just wondering if there are alternatives to the OTS maps floating around out there that are any improvement. I am on 91 octane gas.

I am going to do lots of logging to track temps out here in the high desert while I think on what inter cooler will fit my needs and budget.

Get Randy's from Mountune Tune. He owns a FiST and is always improving his tunes and keep his customers updated. I have both 91 and 93 oct stage 1 maps from Randy. 91 is great but 93 is friggen awesome! Makes my FiST feel like it has stage 3.

OTS maps are free and while they're better than stock they still leave power on the table because you get what you pay for. You could even look into having Braden do your tune as he's only a couple of hours away.

I'll wait until stage 2 to pay for a tune. Since they run about 150 it seems I don't want to have to do it twice. I was just interested to see if there where open source maps available that where not E-tunes

I'm in the same boat my man. I just picked up my accessport and was thinking the same things. I feel like an intercooler will help during the summers now that we are in 100 degree weather.

Basically, it's better to have your car at a certain point before you get professionally tuned rather than keep adding things and keep retuning?

Each tuner is different so you would need to clarify specifically, but a lot have a 'touch-up' fee that's less than the full tune cost.

Yes, with the exception of tunes created by ATR users. ATR users can share tunes with other ATR users.

No matter what direction you go, you're going to have to spend some cash to get something other than OTS maps.

tried the stage 2 map.. Well this is where I want to be for sure. Have to flash back to stage one since its so damn hot out here but i think daily normal driving on stage 2 maps would probably be fine if the charge temps stay under 105. hell they get pretty high on stage 1 in this heat.

its not magic or voodoo. its a few degrees of timing. and I said I was switching back to stage one. the difference between stage one and stage 2 is an intercooler and that's it. So if all that stands in the way of more power is the managing of charge temps and internal temps such as oil and coolant then if your temps remain reasonable then there is no reason not to run the extra timing. the car is still set to adjust timing based on temps and other factors. Its not going to even let you have any detonation and if charge temps are hanging out at 85 degrees max then whats the worry. would I run the map in 100 degree days NO. would I track the car with it? NO. Seriously no disrespect but I feel like people get so caught up in the word of the lord cobb that they think they don't need to understand tuning. I bet some of these higher power stage 1 e-tunes have no problem with running just as much timing as the cobb stage 2 and nobody cries foul on them. Granted that on a track running the extra timing on 91 octane gas that there would be an ever so small chance of some detonation but most likely the computer would use some if its many many resources to adjust the timing to keep everything in line. on normal road use such as passing or accelerating out of a corner you are not going to thermally load up the intercooler or cooling system enough to be in danger of anything unless its hot out. oh and its not a rotary. it dose not blow at the first hint of detonation.

an intercooler does one thing. keeps charge temps in check. The car has safeguards to adjust based on several different temps and inputs. If charge temps go up the computer compensates until it is happy with the results. if you run extra timing and can keep the temps in check by driving manors or local ambient temps then what the problem.

in short I would not run a stage two map in high demand or hot conditions. But testing it out on a cool morning is hardly a risk.

You clearly do not own ATR, but seems how you already know everything you should probably just get it and the 'few degrees of timing' yourself. Easy-peasy.
