If the molding won't stay on despite being correctly inserted in the slots, you may need to replace the Molding Retainer (the part with the slots). It's only $15 from Ford.

As to pricing, if I order from Tasca they sell the trim for $62.06 plus $21.17 shipping. Total $83.23 plus tax. Shipped from Rhode Island to me usually takes a week and a half.
If I order from parts.ford.com and pick up at my local dealer it's $82.38 plus tax. Available the next day after ordering. In addition if I sign in when I order it gives me FordPass points as well.

Does the retainer itself need to be glued/sealed into place, or does it somehow simply press fit into the windshield edge crevice??

I've never replaced the retainer so I'm not sure. However in looking at the pictures (and a video where the person bought them but didn't use them) it appears they have adhesive on the back.

On another note, here's the correct procedure for removing the molding so you don't break it (you can break the plastic while the rubber remains intact such that it will never properly hold on again). Also, if you note the correct procedure for removing, installing is the opposite. Note the importance of the sliding up when you get all the tabs inserted from top to bottom. If you break the hook on the top tab the molding will just fly off.

Can attest to this. I had my windshield replaced by safelite like 2 months ago. Took a small rock just a couple days ago that immediately chipped and looks like it's gonna crack/splinter, so a full replacement is probably in order. I also think the safelite glass is a bit louder than OEM, but idk about that.

OEM glass took plenty of hits without issue until a small boulder hit it. (sarcasm). I probably had 4-6 chips repaired on the OEM glass before we deemed a replacement necessary.
OEM IS quieter. It has sound-deadening qualities replacement glass doesn't usually have.
AI:
SoundScreen is a term used by Ford and Lincoln to describe their acoustic windshields and side glass. These are engineered to reduce road, wind, and other exterior noise, enhancing the cabin's quietness. SoundScreen utilizes acoustic dampening technology within the glass layers to achieve this. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Acoustic Dampening Technology: SoundScreen uses a laminated glass construction with a special acoustic layer between the glass panes. This layer helps to absorb and reduce noise vibrations, minimizing the amount of external noise entering the vehicle. [1, 3]
  • Benefits: SoundScreen aims to create a more comfortable and quieter driving experience for passengers by reducing road noise, wind noise, and other exterior sounds. [1, 2]
  • Ford and Lincoln Models: SoundScreen is commonly found in many Ford and Lincoln models, particularly in higher trim levels. [2, 5]
  • Identifying SoundScreen: You can often identify a vehicle with SoundScreen by looking for the "SoundScreen" label on the front windshield, near the VIN number. [3]
  • Potential Drawbacks: While SoundScreen offers noise reduction benefits, laminated glass can be more prone to chipping and cracking compared to solid glass. [6]
  • Certified Installers: Ford has established a network of certified glass installers who are trained to replace SoundScreen windshields and side glass, ensuring proper installation and maintaining the vehicle's noise-reducing features.
