Tweeter headache! Bass lacking too

I'm disappointed with the audio quality in my fist. Most specifically the tweeters give me a splitting headache. They seem to be pointed directly at my ears and bore in to my head almost to the point I can't listen to the damn thing. Not to mention the bass just does not meet my expectations. What kind of solutions are there? maybe disconnect the tweeters and install coaxial speakers in the doors? I saw RAAMaudio talk about installing tweeters in the little windows, and others talk about subs. I don't want to go too extensive, or need to shake the world but I would like an improvement. The tweeters definitely.

I guess I'm looking for some, "get this and this, install it like so and so" advice, I dunno if my skills are up to it but I'm willing to try.

Or, is there a audio installer anywhere from the northwest suburbs of Chicago out to Rockford that does good work? [:o]

Have you tried adjusting the balance, highs, mids, and lows/ bass. For the price of this car, I think that the audio is okay, not spectacular by any means, lol. As far as upgrading it, the world is the limit depending on your skill level, how much money you want to spend and how much weight that your willing to add. A simple swap of door speakers and adding a sub is easy if you use direct replacement speakers and a simple box for the sub in the back. If you want a custom box, it can get pricey and/ or time consuming if you build your own. What type of music do you listen to and what type of sound do you want? My taste may be different from yours.

My tastes are varied, everything from old Atreyu, to Zepplin with a side of Evanescence, and Beethoven. Lots of Audio books too

I like to feel the music with tight bass, and non ear destroying (as in my fist) treble. Yes, I have adjusted the various controls over and over. Just something about that tweeter pointed at my head 1' from my ear that I don't like. How would a coaxial in the front door sound with the other tweeter disabled?

It may sound okay depending on the brand. Are you planning on running a different door speaker with a built in tweeter?

Yea, disconnect the tweeter in the door handle area and replace the factory speaker in the lower door with a coaxial. I've heard about some that you can aim the tweeter somewhat. Is that a gimmick? what's a good speaker?

i know infinity makes speakers with adjustable tweeters. its not a gimmick, its just an adjustment so aim the sound in different directions. youll never get solid bass from 6.5 door speakers but im sure upgraded speakers and dynamat will help significantly. i have a feeling the head unit is far more powerful than the speakers allow

I'm considering soldering in a capacitor of a few uF, to cut the frequencies of 2kHz or below.
Just needing to find the right capacitance.

Also looking for affordable sub woofers, that won't sound boomy, and can add to the stock door speakers.

Thanks for this thread! I just replaced the stock speakers(with coaxials) to get more mids and when turning the volume up it sounded distorted and hurt my ears so much. After trying your suggestion of disconnecting the tweeters I'm now completely satisfied with my $25 upgrade. Thanks!

In my last Fiesta (2012 5spd base) I felt the stock system had more kick and thump. I added new Skar audio tweeters and replaced the speakers with a boss chaos coaxial. I figured since I liked the boss speakers I should get them again but they don't seem to have as much bump in the ST. Maybe it's because the ST has 4 speakers vs the 2012s 2? I'll have to play around with the fade settings and replace the rears as well soon but so far its sounding much much better than stock.

I opted for a Component set and replaced the factory tweeter. Very happy with the sound in the car even on the stock amplifier.
Did the tweeters fit into the factory tweeter pocket, or did you cut into the door somewhere to mount them (for maybe better 'aim sound')??

They fit in the factory spot with two dabs of hot glue (typical on Fords because of their clip-in tweeters). I try to not permanently modify cars especially if there is a factory spot for a tweeter. It's always best to have all sound sources close so it would technically be better to mount the tweeter closer to the woofer, but then it's just blasting into my leg.

I've heard a lot of low-level systems in cars have more bass than the premium version (assuming there isn't an added sub). I think it's from tEQing that premium systems usually have. My wife's SE had more bass than my Sony system, but it was still barely there so it got a sub also.
