Mustang Ecoboost owner that needed a fun commuter. Not fond of using the pony for a 116 mile commute.

But before buying the FiST even I have run into the infamous blend door issue as the car has that problem. The dealer agreed to knock $500 off for the problem and provide me with the replacement parts since he was not able to have it ready for me before I scheduled to pick it up. (What it would cost in labor for them.) I figured based on what I have seen I can replace them in the dealership parking lot real quick before making the 4 hour drive home. (Mustang has same issue, all Fords seem to, so familiar with the parts and process.)

Asking $12,250 including everything which I considered a fair price if not a bit suspicous. Car is bone stock as far as I can tell and in really good condition considering miles. I am guessing warranty ran out and previous owner decided to bail after a $500+ quote to fix the blend door actuators...

I am buckling up as this could turn out to be an adventure but hoping it turns into a reliable fun commuter with the occassional replacement actuator being the possibility of a necessary evil.

Is there anything else in particular I should be on the look out for? I test drove one and noticed these little 1.6s tick a lot, is that normal?

The blend door issue isn't that big of a deal. I wouldn't really worry about replacing it asap. as long as they still work it's just a few seconds of clicking whenever you change the temp. Get the finger wrench to do it, really.

I have the parts to replace mine but haven't bothered cuz mine's only an issue if I go above/below ~72F, which isn't a bother cuz it's winter right now so it's always on high temp.

Mine ticks too. I've never really worried about it. I tried running a heavier weight oil but it didnt seem to make any difference.

Congrats on your fun new car.

Welcome, the cars have proved to be quite reliable. There are many people on here pushing considerably more horsepower, and the engines stand up to it well.
I've had mine since it was new in 2016, and the only things I've done besides maintenance are two of the actuators which you mentioned, and my screen system had to be replaced. The actuators I paid for but the screen system was done on warranty.
The engines were used virtually stock in the Formula Ford series and also in a winning rally car. If they can stand up to the demands of racing, that gives me a good feeling for their durability on the street. Here's my favorite video to send new owners which shows the car standing up to the abuse of rallying-

I picked it up yesterday and yeah both drivers side and passenger side actuators were singing the song of it's people. Replaced the passenger side one in the lot, drivers side I did this morning. Fun little car! Has some parts that it needs replaced but I am quite happy with it. 36 MPG at 80mph all 4 hours home.

This is awesome. The Mustang Ecoboost gets no appreciation due to the existence of its V8 bretheren. This gives me a lot of appreciation and some more confidence in the Fiesta platform.

these cars are dang dependable and last quite some time... i've got my 2017 at 165,xxx and running strong on e30. no bottom end noise, just louder injectors (cam bucket could probably use replacement) and clutch chatter ;)
(along with some passenger blend door actuator ticking)

It has turned out well. Car cleaned up nicely and yeah a little clutch chatter lol. Injector noise is ok, the infamous Coyote tick has me paranoid about everything that sounds similar.

I am glad most interior parts dont seem to cost more than around 50 bucks so have gotten it nearly back to like new. Passenger side climate vent needs replaced still, evap system needs to be redone, causing rough idle after fill up (maybe cam bucket?), and the Sony head unit is peeling graphics so will replace that eventually.

Mechnically it seems pretty good. Stock other than aftermarket exhaust which I really do not mind. Lots of pops, very growly. Bet my neighbors were hoping for something quieter than my mustang, and it is, but not by much lol. 3:30AM I am driving out so ...

Now to figure out how to get those Recaros :ROFLMAO:

Welcome! I went the opposite direction - fiesta is my toy and bought a Mustang ecoboost for the daily but then found out a month later that I was having a kid, so the Mustang made it 3 months before I sold it. Loved that car though.

You’ll love the fist. Bought my 2016 new and had 0 unscheduled maintenance in 83k miles aside from blend door x2. I’ve been tuned since the week I bought it and big turbo for the last 4 years/12k miles since it retired from daily duty.

Don’t sweat the ticking. Our injectors out loud. Drive with the cowl off and you’ll hear them from inside with the windows up.

The evap harness can be swapped to the 2014-2015 version that’s more reliable if you swap the “induction hose” segment of the intake for a 14-15 version stock or aftermarket.

Test sit some recaros first. They’re super narrow and may not be what you want for a long commute. Lot of people love them though, maybe including you.

Sad for the Stang but I can see why you would. The FiST has enough pep and are fun in their own right and come from factory better prepared for the track from what I have seen. I started with a '07 V6 S197 and traded it for my current Eco S550 in '18 so have always been partial to the Mustang. This is different though. 2700 lbs vs. the 3500 lbs. Very tossable, handles so well. Had to dodge a jack rabbit at 80mph at 4am this morning so it has already proven itself lol.

Any specific tuners that are known in the FiST community like Adam / EMS is for Mustang Ecoboost? I am guessing mostly COBB tuning community?

Looks good in the garage. Never been a huge hatchback guy but it has definitely grown on me. 20250208_180035.jpg
