Thinking about adding Intake and Cat-back before tune...

I am thinking about putting in the cobb intake and cobb catback exhaust before I purchase the Accessport. I just want to make sure I won't lose any power without a tune, I know I most likely won't gain much if anything, I just don't want negative effects before the tune. I am waiting a bit till the warranty is closer to expire and I plan on purchasing the accessport and IC at the same time. No downpipe for me because I live in California and emissions. Then eventually get a freektune. To reiterate the most important question, will I lose any power without a tune?? Let me know guys!

no you wont lose any power. I have the MBRP 3in cbe and cobb intake and have noticed a definite difference, I had the CBE on a week before I got the intake in and even felt a difference then. While the gains arent that huge since ford engineered the car so well I feel its more of a smoothing of the power curve really. I'll tell you think tho definitely look at the Boomba Racing trans adapter and bushings HOLY CRAP is that a big difference, I got the whole ultimate kit and havent installed the short shifter yet but man I cant believe how much better the shifting is now. So much more precise.

Thanks for the awesome reply! Does the Cobb intake have any nice sound to it?

Haha well wait to make it go back to the top by replying. And I have searched it and never got a good response about the sound of the cobb intake.

Without a tune you won't see the power potential but you won't lose any power.

The sound that you will find is good for mental horsepower but a AP or another tune will give you more payback and will still play well with your bolt ons later .. Either is a good way to go depending on your budget and goals for the car :) and I just reread your post ...please nevermind my blathering as your plans allow for a AP closer to end of warrenty .. My bad .. ooops

I did the exact same thing with my car. I have the cobb cbe, rmm and intake, but no tune yet. It will be all the more exiting to finally get an AP, and I'll have a head start on stage 2.

The Cobb intake is nice, it's got a good sound, louder than stock but not obnoxious. Gives a nice blowoff whoosh and also slightly louder induction noise overall. Sounds especially good with the exhaust- very mean sounding car now.

Also, nothing wrong with this thread, it's relevant to many and interesting to talk about.

I'd recommend the tune. Then an intercooler. Then a downpipe. Your a sick person if that's not enough.

I'm still running the stock intake, lol.

As others have stated you won't hurt the car or lose power from not having a tune just not gain near as much. I had an old Mazda 6 V6 with basically every bolton you could find and ran it for years without a tune, eventually got one and the added power was crazy, it's really worth it especially the ots tunes from COBB. This time around i couldn't help myself and actually had the accessport sitting at home (with a few other parts) while my car was still being built at the factory lol.

As for the intake i went with Injen because of the much louder induction noise and blow off (and because COBB didn't have one when i got my car), it's a sound i can't get enough of.
