Just stopped by to report my $1000 multi-mod MBRP with 3" Vibrant resonator and muffler that I could not stand the 3-4K drone in stayed on because I wanted to test Cyborg with full 3" exhaust before mounting the 2.5" Mountune CB I purchased to replace it.

Post Cyborg, drone is gone!. Now sounds deep and satisfying. Course its also possible I went deaf in interim, I loved it on track, easy to hear shift points.

And have to tune Cyborg, that may change it again, but I would not have believed the difference changing turbos made. Learn something new every day.

Did you guys torque your exhaust bolts to a specific spec during install or did you just tighten the bolts firmly and called it a day?

firmly with a standard 3/8 ratchet. i can't imagine the torque spec is more than 20ft-lbs, it probably just 18 ft-lb

i've done it twice now with no leaks. i did replace every bolt/nut/stud and every gasket that was disturbed each time

So I just got my exhaust installed (did it myself), and the process was pretty smooth except I ran into an issue with the mid brace bolts.

I was able to take out 3 of them without much effort, and this "4th" one took about the same amount of effort to break loose.
Once all the nuts were broken, I figured, "smooth sailing" from here on. Then without putting extra force, I noticed this one nut was stuck. I kept unscrewing it and then realized, the whole bolt broke off from whatever it was attached to and now the bolt and nut were spinning together.

Since I was able to loosen off the other 3 nuts, I was able to swing the mid brace out of the way for the mid pipe to do my exhaust install, but unfortunately, I'm not sure what to do with this partially loose bolt/nut now.

I tried putting soaking it in WD40 for a bit, but there's not much I can do since I can't really grip onto the bolt in anyway. I even tried using a lock wrench to clamp onto the bolt, and use a box wrench to turn the nut. But because the bolt is round, it's really hard to get any grip on it.

I put everything back together and just left it as is with only 3 bolts secured. I'm not sure how much this will affect my drivability or handling. And whether I should just leave it and forget about it.

I have no idea what that bolt is supposed to be attached to or if it was supposed to be welded to the chassis. But it seems like I would have to take apart the floor in order to access it...

Any suggestions??

Currently I have a VERY similar setup. MBRP, modded to be vband connection to the downpipe(full 3"), with a Magnaflow 14419 muffler and a Vibrant 1794 resonator, my god the sound that comes from the exhaust is absolutely amazing. I too have to report that with my turbo swap, the drone is GONE! and the sound is much deeper than with the stock turbo.

This video is with the full MBRP catback modded to be full 3" vband connection, I will post another when I get my video of the new sounding exhaust. sounds WAY different with the new turbo

Someone asked earlier about the weight savings of a muffler delete. I'm also looking to do a muffler delete and am just curious what the muffler will save. I'm thinking probably 15-20lbs at the most but would like to know if anyone has weighed the removed muffler section.

Here is the new exhaust. Because of the room in the exhaust stream I had to put the magna pack right after the down pipe and the resonator at the back after the axle. which worked out perfectly. This exhaust is based off the MBRP. I took the muffler section out, Mandrel bent a 3" pipe with an v band connection on it to match up with my full 3" Vband Downpipe. put the magna pack muffler in that straight section used the rest of the mbrp, and where it bends right after the axle to go straight out the back I cut that off, put the vibrant resonator there, then straight 3" pipe with the tip on it. it extends a little further than I wanted it to, but thats simple to fix.

A little smoke due to the oil supply fitting being the wrong one, I have the new one on order. For the short version watch the start to 2:30 and then 6:30 to the end are the best parts of the video.

OEM Muffler (and a bit) = 20 lbs

Full OEM Exhaust = 33 lbs

Full COBB Exhaust = 28 lbs

Read the whole thread. Think im going with 2jr catless dp and mbrp catback. Not sure if in the future ill be upgrading turbo, so that pushed me to mbrp cbe over fswerks.

Nope
So is it a general concessus that the Cobb 2.5" is the one that is least droney one? I want a more aggressive exhaust but I don't want to compromise the comfort of my first brand new car.

I've been driving with a COBB cbe and it is definitely not super quiet. Under 3k rpm it's a nice rumble and at WOT it screams...after fire on downshifts too. It's not as loud as a straight piped 3", but it makes plenty of noise.
There's plenty of video's on youtube.

What this guy says. I love my Cobb. It's a little rusty now after 2 and a half years so I'll be looking for a new one here shortly and will probably go back with Cobb. If not them I heard FSWerks exhaust sounds very similar to Cobb's, although I haven't heard the Werks one in person to compare.
