I don't deny that going catless stinks and that it only produces minor increases in power. In all actuality, I plan on going with a high flow catted downpipe soon, either cobb or cp-e because I also have grown out of the catless smell and worrying about the inspections and laws on emissions. I just don't care for self righteous rants directed toward others when we all have our own faults and positives. It's kind of like a smoker and an alcoholic arguing about which is worse, lol.

What's making you choose those over just getting the 2JR catted pipe?

Nothing really. I could add theirs to the list too as I have their race version and their price is less. I do like the retention of the mounting bolts on the cp-e though.

Correct...Cobb doesn't use mount brackets on its DP...not necessary...

I just installed the Cobb down pipe today. Installation is much easier without the bracket provisions. The bracket is on the OEM down pipe to help support it's weight. It's heavy compared to the Cobb unit, which does away with the bracket. Stock down pipe is 11lbs. Cobb is 7lbs. Also note that the OEM down pipe has notches on down pipe flange to turbo. This is to allow you to hang it on to the bolts during installation because of it's weight, making it a one man job and not two.

Oh okay. That makes sense. So the cobb one doesn't need any additional hardware to properlt install? Just plug and play?

I believe it is responsible to run a cat and believe we all should, just stating my opinion on it:)

-----------------------

I have a well ported manifold, modified turbo, full 3" DP with a 5" 100 cell cat, 3" DP outlet, 3" exhaust with the fewest bends, less angle on the bends, 5" perf core SS packed resonator and a small Borla race muffler, 3" perf core in and out and a single oval tip. It is the least restrictive setup anybody has done yet and probably always will be and mostly too quiet, never stinks except from a cold start which is normal. You can have performance, civility and clean output if you take the time to do it right.

It did take a great deal longer to build than I expected as I have built quite a few systems and I have a lift, etc...but this one was a tight fit with lots of adjustments to make sure it did not hit anything and yet be so clean flowing. No manf could sell one like it as to many issues for the average user to make it not rattle, etc..I still have a bit of it now after many times working on it but just one which I will fix the next time on the lift.

After uppgrading turbo my exhaust is now a bit too loud. I have de-cat and unresonated cat-back installed. So what are my options for silencing? I could install a miltek sport cat, i was told it should flow well enough for 350hp, but then i'm thinking it's not good for getting rid of all the heat produced.
I also seen people install a remote control butterfly valve, to me that looks like a good solution. My biggest problem is the large sound when just cruisng, attracts to much attention, already stopped by police once because of it, but nothing happend.

How was it on the butt dyno?

How is the sound with the catless dp on the borla? I have the FRPP catback so essentially we are almost the same.

Adding a catted DP should reduce the noise a fair amount and might be all you need.

Another option is to have a resonator installed on the exhaust in the middle of the car.

Vibrant sells a 5x18" SS packed resonator that flows great, it could be installed but could be a clearance issue, my whole system is DIY custom and I made it fit as it was the best one I could find, around $120 or less so not a bad price and will not burn out as SS packing.

If still on the stock turbo make sure to keep the heat shield on it as well.

A valve on the exhaust is only to make noise, I never put on a part that does not make real power, just adds weight and noise unless I really need to hear it and I have considered it for track use as my system is very quiet even when I swap the muffler out for the straight pipe I built.

I would wrap the DP, not really that hard to do, I think I had a 30 ft roll and used it all to ensure really well done, it is double in most all areas, triple in a few, etc....reduces the heat a great deal and warms up the cat faster so it works sooner.

So says the angel here...roll eyes. Can't say that though since your a Giants fan iaw your profile, lol. I only say this because I run a catless downpipe and calling me irresponsible and unethical is a judgement that you or anyone else does not have the right to pass unless you are perfect in every way.
Make all the excuses you want. Only one of us is ranting.

Stage 3 is awesome! it rips now, what a difference from stock. The car is a total sleeper now. The intercooler can't be seen and the cat-back is still stock. To the unaware it looks totally stock. When the honeymoon wears off I may slip in an ATP turbo kit or other similar option that becomes available. Pics and tips on what I've encountered are on my build thread. http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/threads/3074-koozy-s-ST
