Are you guys removing the windshield wiper cowl? Yeah, it's a bit of labor, but it really does create quite a bit more space to work back there.

It does give you a lot more room...but I think removing it is overkill for the intake swap. Definitely worth it for removing the stock downpipe and/ or turbo.

I didnt, I saw on the Cobb site they did and I think they took out the drivers headlight too for some reason.

I found a way in which you do not need to remove the cowl which made for a relatively quick and easy install... Cobb's installation instructions (see link below) also calls out to remove both headlamps which I skipped over as well!

I removed that 90 degree crankcase breather tube from Cobb's long 3" Tube prior to installing...This allows for the CAI long tube to easily slip right under the cowling...After the long tube was installed I then screwed the 90 degree breather tube back onto the long tube and then secured the hose to it with worm clamp from behind...

Ive went back and forth on the cobb intake. I just dont see how it would outflow the stock box thats ben modded and has a HF filter.

If I were to get the Cobb intake, I would still do the stock box mod...otherwise, you are still pulling from the same hole and scoop as the stock setup.

I installed Cobb's CAI knowing that I would eventually need a less restrictive / larger diameter intake piping to couple to a larger turbo...

Also Cobbs filter surface area is ~1.7X larger than stock....although I don't know if increasing the surface area makes a significant difference in improved airflow...

This makes perfect sense but for the stock one no need really. A intake or exhaust is only as big as its smallest part. It still has to go through the tiny turbo inlet.

That's why its always good idea to have a mod goal and plan ahead...

If I were planning to stay with the stock turbo I think the only part of the stock intake system I might consider replacing the stock short tube with is Mountunes short tube to eliminate the stock ribbed section which is probably adding a bit of disruptive intake air turbulence...

This is what I went with, paired with a Cobb filter. Sticking with the stock turbo 'til it breaks. I will get the intake box ported when a mod that needs it's removal is due.

It does, the increased surface area allows more air to come in. Also which airbox mod is everyone referring to? Is it just drilling out a hole on the bottom and running a hose under the bumper?

You can only draw in as much air as the cross sectional area of the tube will allow...Also I don't think adding a additional hole at the bottom of the box will make the air flow any less restrictive and have yet to see any actual data posted that proves otherwise....

Yup. Similar to Mountune's setup.

People should look up some MightyMods youtube videos regarding Cold Air intakes in general. It certainly helped me decide if a CAI is even worth it.

If your going to add a hole to the bottom of the airbox then you need to seal the oval air-duct at the top...As I said earlier I have yet to see any actual data posted that shows that adding an additional hole at the bottom of the airbox improves airflow and reduces intake temps...And unlike Mountune's airbox I would rather see a box made of ABS than one made of aluminum which conducts heat quite well...

MightyMods...LOL!!!!... those guys are funny as all hell and are same guys that installed a BOV on a non-aspirated engine...Not to be taken seriously though...
I only watched the CAI videos. Didn't see anything funny or suspect about the subject matter. I know they have a "schtick" with their delivery but if you can point out what's wrong with their CAI tests I'll be more wary in the future.
