You will have a CARB EO number in time for your first smog check, 4 years from now

CARB is really turning the screws on everyone lately, at work I can't sell BMS products in Cali anymore. If you don't pay the CARB man he'll make it so you can't sell here.
They did it to POR-15, and they continue to do it. Injen and aFe probably seeing a huge increase in BMW air intake sales since BMS can't sell here anymore.

Ian, are you guys in dev for any BMW intake bits? The drop in filters do HELP but a proper intake REALLY helps wake up the N54 (+24hp seems to be average gain) and to lesser extent, the N55 (10-15hp, more conservative due to single turbo setup vs N54 twin turbos)

I believe that smog check in CA is only required after 6 years from date of purchase of a new vehicle which gives those of us that recently purchased our FiSTs even more time! ;)

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/d...cm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/smogfaq#BM2535

"Owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification."

That is correct. Unless you get pulled over with non CARB parts and get sent to state ref.

Obviously....we try to avoid that! LOL....

Still most cops won't go out of thier way to look under the hood if your pulled over for a simple traffic violation unless you give them a good reason to do so (i.e. being an A-hole) or you get pulled over in a random popup smog check point...I stay clear from populated urban areas where much of those seem to occur here in CA...

Yup, agreed. Don't drive like an ahole and you will be good. I've been pulled over twice in my Evos over the last 10 years and they where FAR from being legal but they never checked but I also do most of my "illegal" mods in a VERY stealth way just in case. Part of living in California and enjoying modded cars. :)

exactly...one of the reasons why I don't install obnoxious / loud exhaust systems so I don't attract too much attention to begin with....the other being is I simple don't enjoy hearing loud exhaust system either!

Assuming no design changes, yes! This is what happened with our Focus ST intake, so anybody that bought one got a free CARB sticker.

No plans.

Looks very nice! As much as I like COBB parts I just can't see myself selling my Injen for it and taking a huge loss. If it was out when I went to buy an intake I definitely would have picked it up but it's just too late now unfortunately.

You can always convert your Injen to basically be the same setup as the Cobb one with a 90* bend, too.

Here are some pics of my attempts to both increase intake air to my Mountune lower air intake hose (I hated tucking it up under the fog light) and in order to match appearance, a future oil cooler intake (passenger side) if I ever get there. I used the same black anodized aluminum mesh to "bug screen" Cobb IC. Used black ABS under vents so no white would show, and to give myself a flange connection I could install and remove separately from cowl. Overall look is subtle, not obvious.

Logged 3rd gear pulls show no change in performance or intake air parameters, so maybe all I got is functional vents and bug protection for IC. I left a 1" gap between drivers side fog light vent and Mountune lower air hose for positive drainage, might play with that in the future.

Also, having watched the various intake air parameters closely, I suspect the Mountune aluminum air box heats up in the engine compartment and keeps intake air a little hotter than the OEM box might, but have not replumbed OEM to find out. For example, my ambient may read 88 F, intake air 94 F, charge air 92 F. Just driving around here in S. Fla.

I also suspect the hottest ambient air is next to pavement, down where my second intake is, so do not expect it to do much unless moving pretty fast. I also wonder if adding high pressure points where I did has other unintended side effects, but cannot perceive them yet
