Pumaspeed either guessed wrong or didn't care to measure but the stock turbo inlet tube is 35mm, not 38mm stock. Their inlet goes to 44mm . Its only like $300 :)

I am still waiting on brake parts, I was going to make some temp front caliper mounts but the custom ones were supposed to be here so I waited, not here yet. If done today then priority mailed to me, if done tomorrow I will pay for overnight shipping so I have them on Saturday and the car on the road by Sunday. I have to put some miles on to break in the engine and sort out the whole car since so many mods done without testing them but I have done a ton of this stuff, I do not expect many if any issues.

As soon as broken in then tuned I will get it on a dyno.

If my caliper mounts are not done by tomorrow I will either make temp ones(lots of dirty work cutting up the steel) or I will spend the time pulling the turbo back off and porting the turbine outlet and WG, more fun that making caliper mounts for sure!

I have had the car around 5 months and put less than 10 miles of the 294 it now has on the clock so I am a bit ready to drive this thing!

Also... Maybe the euro inlet is different, because pumpaspeed list it as a "38mm" inlet. That is clearly not the case on the usdm car.

I don't have time currently to built something for this like Rick did, but in the near future, I'm plan on having these in stock for about $X dollars (reasonable as I can). I'm aiming for $100 or less, but i personally will not be building these ( i can fab one, but I just can't do it as cleanly and as quickly as a pro ), so the end price will depend on him. But it is another piece to think about. I can tell you 35mm is severely choking the upgraded turbo down and its on a 90* bend.

Pumaspeed charges like $300 shipped for one of these after taxes and all.

And I believe they are also made to order. I'd want to stock at least 5-20 at a time.

What do you guys this about that idea? Worth dealing with?

I think I'm going to have 5 built Dave and see how the demand is. If I was ATP, I'd be SUPER MAD right now, lol.

Here is some data from ATP on a VW. Yes very worth it.

"Notice how the dyno chart shows a completely different power/torque curve resulting from just swapping out the stock inlet hose (with step-down adapter) vs. 3" upgraded inlet pipe set with the restrictive adapter removed in favor of a larger bore adapter to connect to the larger 3" pipe. The bigger turbo's response at all RPM's was better. The amount of performance unleashed by the higher flowing inlet pipe set shows that a good turbo needs to have proper breathing in order to do its job."

Did I miss something about where the upgraded internals came from? Did you get them from puma speed sour skittle?

EDIT: Whoops I found it a few posts in. This thread got a LOT of posts REALLY fast.

EDIT: one question for sourskittle, are you doing all of the machining yourself?

The problem is.... Turn on your wife's hair dryer (or any females, or your own ). Let it run full blast. Now... Put your hand completely over the intake. What happens? Does motor/impeller speed up or slow down? It increases in speed like crazy. Because its lacking air, it loses its "load". Since the boost does not rise correctly, the wastegate does not open on time. You end up over-speeding the turbo.

Bad for spool up.
Bad for high rpm power.
Really bad for a turbo that already spins at 200,000rpms (sometimes more).

To answer the machining question :)
I do not have the required skill to machine a radius into the compressor cover. Its not as simple as just making the whole bigger :) I work for a shop that has been doing this for 15 years though. I can rebuild and service turbo's but the machine work is out of me personal league :)

Oh, in the first post Rick said the upgraded turbo was courtesy of you, so I thought you were doing the work on it, was the work done by the place you work at?

EDIT: Crap, i just lost my place in the thread, replying took me to the end... now i gotta scroll back through...

Because they predicted a market for the gt/gtx turbos. The dyno tested, track tested and developed all the parts for a bolt-on kit at a reasonable price ( in my opinion ), and not a single person I know of in the US has bought any of the 5 opinions they offer ( one guy in the UK did ).

I don't want to have my friend put his time, materials, and skill into 25 of them, and 3 people buy them, lol. This part will not be dyno tested by me, lol.

I'm amazed that nobody on the forums has bought a kit yet. IMO if they were active on the forums answering questions, they would have better luck selling to us.

They don't even answer questions on their FB page. I agree though they would be selling a lot more kits if they were on here.

They just do not have a good option for anybody that drives the car on the street. I talked to the tuner and he said the GT25 was not worth it as had more lag than it might seem from the dyno plot and not enough top end gain and the bigger ones have so much lag they would not be fun for most real world use. He recommended the EFR at the best aftermarket turbo to go to.

I agree but for those not wanting to go that far, I have very high hopes for these modified stock turbos:)

If we are fortunate and get a decent amount of HP gain and still have the same amount or better yet a wider torque curve these cars will be fast, just not bragging rights, dyno queen numbers.

---------------------

I took a day off as have been busting my butt on the car, house, etc....then decided to have brew and Lagunitas IPA is so fun I had a couple more and now a bit.......

That said, if repetitive in this post, so be it, I am having a great time:)

Watching this thread closely, this st is about perfect, just needs a little more power, which is the easiest thing to fix, curious to see your results from this.

Atp's laggy setup may not be for all of us, but plenty of guys I know with other cars are like, "I don't care about lag, I just want 600hp". A few of those types have to own fiesta's. I do super agree if they invested in customer service it would pay off a bit.
