A 1/4 shank 6-7" long 3/8 head dia double cut bit and a cheap harbor freight 1/4 120volt die grinder.

It would take about 35 hours with a dremel, lol. Might even require 2 dremels, lol.

Turbine inlet

Manifold exit

Ports matched and polished

Wastegate hole ported, radius'd, and polished

More than a "small amount" taken out.

You don't have to take it to the level I do... I'm just saying if your paying me to do it, its a fair deal at $350. But that doesn't mean you have to take it as far as I do. Matching the ports/inlets/outlets is prob the most important and if your leaving it rough and just trying to make it match, you could prob get 80-85% of the results with far less time doing it yourself.

In the future, if anyone REALLY wants me to, I'll offer a larger wastegate disk that will allow for larger porting. Basically the disk will come from a big 16G mistu turbo. The disk its self is only 1mm bigger, but it will let me remove the stock disk port the hole alot, then attach the new disk. The factory disk can not be reliably removed, then reattached. As it is, the bits can only do so much with the factory disk in place, but... Its GREATLY improved over stock.

( to prevent this from being a debate, maybe in its own thread ) I'll just say "many people believe" that porting the wastegate hole is the most critical part of a turbine port job. Once the turbo is at full speed, its letting a ton of heat/ back pressure out of that tiny hole, any improvement in that area very much helps EGTs. ( if you want to debate on that, please make a new thread and post a link. ).

Any comments or suggestions are also welcome :)

Can't wait to see the numbers :) Especially with the clipped turbine, SS. Provided they're great enough, this would be a relatively better upgrade, and it would give me the chance at getting in there and trying out this porting thing. On the flip side, if it's not what I'm looking for, I have no qualms with swapping out both turbo and manifold w/2Jrs setup.

The great thing about this is the low cost way to make more power and use all the parts you already have and the more DIY the less the cost and, flying under the radar for those that need to. Then you can do a stealthy opening up of the cat and use the stock exhaust if you really want to be sneaky about it all or bolt on a DP and exhaust and an intake and enjoy those but swap the stock, modified stock, stuff back on if ever needed and nowbody is the wiser)

The list of options to go beyond simple bolt on power using the stock turbo and manifold is growing, finally:

1) Modified stock turbo, with or without ported manifold and modified stock DP and stock or modified stock exhaust or aftermarket exhaust
2) Modified stock turbo, with or without ported manifold and whatever bolt on parts you wish to use, easy to fly under the radar.
3) All out modified stock turbo with ported manifold and whatever bolt on parts, carefully done can still fly under the radar.
4) GT25 and whatever bolt ons you wish, ported manifold recommended, not much top end gain, lose bottom end, not a good value, not stealthy.
5) GT28 and whatever bolt ons you wish, really poor bottom end response, more for drag racers
6) GTX and whatever bolts ons you wish, pretty much as above results.
7) EFR 62/58, DIY(serious effort required) less than $2k, up to $6k if paying to much, so far seems to be the best turbo for these cars there is.

A great deal more could be written in each description and the actual parts used, etc....can make a difference as well as we have not seen much real world use on any of it but it is all coming together now:)

I'm sorry, but if seeing the size difference between these wheels doesn't make you at least crack a smile, you prob should have bought a honda :)

If this gains 30whp over the stock turbo tuned vs. tuned I will send my turbo out the very same day.

So basically, let's see the gawdamn testing already! :) :) *beer*

Razor, I'm going to hold you to that !! At home in the garage now... Working on my "how-to". Its 97degrees and 100% humidity, good times :)
Rodmoe, I want to see you hit that EFR !!!

I think Ricks numbers will crush 30whp actually. Who are we comparing Rick to though?
And who are we comparing my car to? No one really responded to my question about my car... Other full bolt on cars are making what? 215whp 270tq? Give or take? So what's my goal with only exhaust port back mods? If i make 220whp, wouldn't that prove that the turbo should be the first thing addressed instead of the last?

What is Rick's realistic goal? His "bolt-on" peers are making 215whp 270tq, so 30whp for him would be ? 245whp 270tq? Maybe Rick makes 270whp...? Time will tell. I do very much promise I'm doing everything within my power to get it done on all 3 units ( Rick, me, and the extreme clipped one). After that, I'll file for vendor status and officially put them up for sale.

Also keep in mind we are desperately searching for a core. But still no definite end to that search in sight ( or a fost turbo for that matter ).

I will become a drug mule to pay for this and the supporting mods.

More power + great response + low cost = Happy me.

Yes, 235-255whp from a FMIC/DP car would make me happy and basically a 30whp gain over the stock turbo tuned vs tuned.

What would make me REALLY happy is some baseline runs done before the turbo so we could actually see proven gains.

What's holding up the dyno runs? I'll paypal you the gawdamn $75 to rent the dyno for an hour.

btw, if you are a turbo shop, why not pay $900 for a OEM turbo core?

Rick is waiting on brake parts and my turbo and a customer's is still being built... I was actually hoping to dyno tomorrow, but that's not going to happen :(

Saturday is actually "best case" right now... Labor day really threw us off.

Ok that's not too far off. I take it you baselined your car before ripping the OEM turbo off?
