That's an inverted strut. The rear suspension on our cars don't use struts. How about a picture of an inverted damper that is NOT a strut?

I agree with you about inverted STRUTS. However, even though an inverted STRUT is heavier overall, the parts that move are actually lighter. How do I know...because I weighed them. I helped a friend rebuild his DMS inverted STRUTS a long time ago. Inverted STRUTS are also much stiffer(as you stated) because they use the damper body to support their movement. This is only critical where the damper is forms a part of the mechanical suspension, as is the case with a STRUT.
To damper is the function of a strut or shock. Hence, why they are called dampers, or dampeners. Unless something has changed, that I'm unaware of... I feel like I'm being trolled.

From Wikipedia "The MacPherson strut is a type of car suspension system which uses the top of a telescopic damper as the upper steering pivot.

You can have a strut without a damper. I'll build you one. It's simple, just drill a couple small holes in a regular strut and let all the gas and fluid out, and you have yourself a strut without a damper. The function of a strut is to allow/control suspension movement, not to damper it, that's the job of the damper. But, this all moot, because we're talking about the REAR suspension, which has nothing to do with a STRUT.

I'm still waiting for you to produce a picture of an "inverted" NON-STRUT damper.

Edit- This is exactly why I don't argue with people who think they know the answers.

I agree that most struts have dampers in them. Shocks are dampers. When did I dispute these facts? I thought this debate was about inverted dampers, not struts. Stay focused.

Your definitions may be correct as applied to struts and motorcycle forks.
However we started out talking about the REAR dampers.

And all of this over an inverted mounted rear damper.

These are NOT struts and they are NOT motorcycle forks, that have been pictured and described above.
They are just dampers and dampers can be MOUNTED in either direction.
Even horizontal in some applications.
In this application we do not require the additional external tube for rigidity as the other suspension components provide this.

Please remember that this set was originally designed by Ford and built by Eibach.
My original point was that Ford/Eibach has chosen to MOUNT the REAR dampers, inverted as compared to most other venders.
This provides less un-sprung weight and additional clearance.

You all can call them what ever you want.
I got them and they are MOUNTED inverted compared to any other damper I have ever had on MY car.

I would be happy too.
My only free time now is Sundays but I am sure we can find a time and place.
It is always nice to get away from work where I have to sell shocks to people, some of them even inverted.

We could even discus why in Indy Cars and F1, coilovers are mounted horizontally.
Why they were called Shock Absorbers in the first place.
Also how some people don't have a clue.
LOL.

When we do make it down we will be staying out in Perris or at an RV park, depends on if the trailer fits at my buddies place. I would want to have an event to track the car at the track in Ontario so would plan around an open track day and if a weekend I would bring the trailer and welcome anybody here to come and hang out as lots of room. I would go to meets, maybe an autocross, car shows, etc.....

If not by spring then probably in the fall, if we sell our place in Utah soon enough we will probably spend a few months in the NE seeing the grandkids, tracks, site seeing, then head to SoCal on the way back in the fall.

If the weather is good in Jan I might head to NoCal for a week or two and just take the car, I might take a few days to come to SoCal then.

It would be great to drive each others cars a bit to get a feel for the suspensions so we can give more feedback to others on any differences.

Whenever I end up there I also hope to have my audio system done so I can demo it. I do plan to sell them when ready and they will be a great value and quality but low weight but always willing to help others no matter what they go with and to continue learning as well.

At some events I will have to hook up a video camera to watch outside the trailer, we have a 50" display setup.

I am also working on plans for a custom a mini kegorator in the island in the kitchen but that is a pretty serious project to work out.

My wife is all for this, having our fellow enthusiasts hang out with us, good food and brews, etc....:)

Better like dogs, we have an Akita, super sweet, and an Irish Wolfhound but only around 95lbs, sweet but a little shy, they will be with us all the time or at least most of the time depending on event rules.

I love giving rides and will when allowed and a few select people will get to drive the car a bit, pretty picky about that as can be imagined as I cannot easily replace a car with all the custom mods I have done.
