Fiesta ST Intercooler/Chargepipe upgrade... worth it?

Even ATP states that it's not necessary on the stock turbo.
yes....I read that too ;)

ATP's hot side pipe also has a port on it for installation of an aftermarket BOV to be used with their turbo kits...

So would it be worth buying dhm intercooler and hot side pipe kit for a cheaper price than cobbs? I mean I was planing on spending 580 anyway just on cobbs intercooler alone.

Link me to that dhm IC and charge pipe for $580 please. I went to their site and they sell for more than that.

I was getting that from his stock intercooler thread. The intercooler is 475 and the pipe is a little more. So it's not the numbers I posted. My bad. But for a little more you get a charge pipe. Just wondering if it's worth it.

Lol, I was just noting that for those that haven't been on their site. I've seen that picture posted a lot, but nobody mentions the stock turbo blurb.

Fwiw, I have Cobb's charge pipes. I have nothing against them, but plenty of people are on a budget when doing modifications and want the best bang for their buck. Until someone is actually willing to datalog one on the stock turbo, I put very little weight into their worth.

I believe ATP discourages folks who just have stock turbo's from purchasing their IC hot side hard pipe simply because it has a port on the pipe for an external BOV and they got tired of folks who didn't need the port from returning them! LOL

Not that I disagree either... Its just that no ones proven one way or another that this does or doesn't make a difference with a stock turbo...Just "intuitively" looking at those disruptions, added resonator, and choke points you would think the airflow would be somewhat improved...FWTW...haha

But I hear ya...If your on a budget and not planning on upgrading the Turbo then just an intercooler alone is by far the best bang for your buck!

here are my thoughts on the hot side charge pipe from mountune;

Is it going to hurt with a stock turbo? No. Is it going to make a difference you can feel? No. Does it get rid of a resonator? Yes. I wanted to get rid of the resonator since seeing it on the Fiesta Movement ST and now I finally did it.

They are purdy to look at when changing my oil! haha

Although some have reported that replacing the OE hot side pipe (and eliminating the resonator) can produce odd whirling sounds similar to an Australian didgeridoo...Personally, I've never heard this sound myself...

There is no debate because there's no third party data on the DHM FMIC that I know of.

They are purdy to look at when changing my oil! haha

I don't have any strange sounds at all from removing the resonator, in fact, with the radio on or the windows down, I can tell zero difference with the pipe installed. When I looked inside the factory pipe, I did see that the section where the resonator is installed, there is a small lip that reduces the ID. So, by replacing the tube, I removed a spot for turbulence and a reduction in cross sectional area. It surely doesn't hurt to install the pipe, but don't expect anything mind blowing when you are done. It was an inexpensive modification that was easy to do, so that is always good.

My nose is quite audible in most situations. It sounds similar to blowing across the top of a bottle, but with a higher pitch. I never bothered to try and isolate it to anything specific, I just learned to live with it.

With that combination, you'll either not notice it or it will just be a subtle background note. I have the MBRP version, which is 2 inch all the way, and I only really hear it at lower speeds if I'm listening for it. Honestly, for the MBRP and the DHM versions, the two main benefits I can see are the smoother flow due to the removal of the resonator (debatable) and since they replace the tubing from the turbo to the oil pan bolt location there's a reduction in places a boost leak can occur.
