4 speaker and 4 tweeters?

between the pillar and the dashboard, next to the window it seems like there is a speaker there since it has the hole pattern as the tweeter in the door... I was hoping for a speaker

The camera is deceiving... I just confirmed that there is not a speaker there... but mine looks looks this and that's why I thought there was a speaker there:

Now... I went to take a picture and found this other grille above the center of the console... above the screen:

is that a speaker/tweeter?

That's for venting the screen, no speakers there either.

Man, for somr reason my car has the same speaker "grille" like material next to the small windows in the front so I was hoping for speakers there... None! Then I noticed the grille in the center of the dash... No luck either as ATXFiST pointed out it is just a vent... So wishful thinking is all it was.
I should be getting my amp and subwoofer tomorrow... Will post pics as soon as I get a chance.

So there are 8 (4 woofers, 4 tweeters), the fronts are as posted in the bottom of the door and next to the handle. Ford used a custom mount for the rears mounting the tweeter over the woofer but still using the capacitor filter that the fronts use.

How powerful is the OEM head unit in the ST?

The OEM headunit is rated 25W @ 4 Ohm, you won't need the shallow mount if you cut out the factory speakers and drill the new speakers into the factory rings. I mounted Infinity Primus PR6502is into the factory rings in the rear doors and Primus 6500CS components in the factory rings in the front.

Nice, I had as a next project replacing all 4 speakers/woofers with 6 1/2 alpine speakers... Thanks for the info on the rear speakers and their specs.

Do you guys think most 6 1/2 speakers will fit?

According to crutchfield the speakers I have installed on the front and rear doors won't fit. So, grain of salt on their fit guide there. I measured but didn't write down the distance from frame to window for the speakers. If you cut the stock speakers and reuse the plastic ring they were in you can fit I would say any average 6 1/2, no need for shallow mounts. If you used the metra rings crutchfield sends their measurements probably are right and it would be on the shallow mount side.

Note on the front doors if you are going to use 2 piece components like I did, make sure your crossover is small, there is not much space to mount anything inside the doors.

No problem, which alpine speakers were you thinking of going with? It wasn't a drastic change since there is no power increase but once I got to about 50-60% volume there is no longer any distortion that I was getting on the stock setup.

Once it cools down I'm going to go back in dynamat all 4 doors and redo the soldering with removable connectors. I meant to do pictures of the door speakers install but it was way too hot to take the extra time to document it all. I'm planning on doing a small sub, but I haven't decided if I want to try and fit something under the front seat or under that rear cargo deck without removing the spare. So I'll try to remember and post a thread with all that combined.

I'm planning on eventually upgrading my speakers. With the rattles I'm already experiencing, I'm hesitant to consider adding a sub.

In my Ranger, taking off the inside of the door was brainless easy. So switching out the speakers was child's play....not the Chuckie version. But, in this car, it looks more time consuming and tedious. I'm afraid to snap something off. Hell, I don't even want to sneeze while I'm in the car let alone start taking things apart.

FYI, it's such an odd shaped head unit, does someone make an aftermarket head unit that fits?

At 100 watts, will the low power factory head unit be able to power them or are you adding an amp?

Something like this should work, the thing is that I would need to bring the audio from the trunk to each of the speakers... Just some wiring to do.
