Unfortunately the Indy 500s don't come in 15s or I'd recommend those too. My priorities are a little different though since I'll be touring my car (driving cross country) and not racing...though I am a spirited driver.

I am looking for different sizes just in case I get caught in surprisingly low temps (although my intent is to avoid them like the plague - I do plan to visit a few higher altitude locations). My wheel is also narrower (6.5") so if I keep stock height, I am looking at a 195/60 or 185/65.

Actually my 195/55/15 bfg are 23.4 od and virtualy identical to stock diameter so you may want to look into 195/55 or 185/60 is slightly taller at around 23.7. The sizes you mentioned would be taller than that

I am currently using 195/55 15 Federal SS595s which are likely a bit larger than the oem OD because of the wider than normal Federal tires. I know that the heights that I mentioned are taller than stock OD. That's intentional to get rid of the fender gap. I am aiming for an OD closer to a 205/45 17 sized tire. It shouldn't rub as long as it doesn't exceed that height and it will make the car at least "look" like it is dropped. The extra cushion in the tires doesn't hurt either...

It all comes down to the setup. You can get a very light 15x7 (OZ Ultralegerra @ 12lbs each in our stock bolt pattern, or 949 Racing 6UL @<11lbs each in 4x100) and a good 195/55 tire (BFG SC2 or Dunlop DZII) and save 10+lbs per corner. The different would be very apparent in all aspects of driving, and would likely ride much much better than stock with the higher sidewall. Plus, the wheels would make you car look sweet too. Win-win.

I am using the Focal F-05s which weigh in at about 14 lbs. Not as light or good looking as the OZ but still a definite improvement over oem and at a much lower price. I think if I were to switch wheels again, I'd go for a 15x8 wheel next but for now I'm happy with this setup so far. Just need to decide if I will drop my car or not after I get the Bilstein B8s put in.

Pics of your setup?

I originally wanted a lighter setup than I have (I only saved about 1lb per corner), but I got a good deal locally that I couldn't pass up. My priorities were 16" wheel with 205/50's, in a somewhat lightweight wheel (under 18lbs preferably) that wasn't ugly. I got way to aggressive of a tire for what I wanted, but like I said it was a good deal...they are noticeably louder than the stock tires, but even though they are much stiffer they ride so much better.

225/45-17? Unlikely as these are more than 1.5" inches (25") taller than stock diameter (23.4")
I have them - run them on my Rota Recce 17" wheel.

They don't rub under normal driving conditions - they do rub when I hit a bump while under compression (such as the outside wheel hitting a bump while mid corner) and when loaded with people it does rub a bit over bumps.

I'll be rolling my fenders and that should solve the problem - on stock springs it's very close to clearing everything and tucking nicely into the fender. Just so happens it touches ever so slightly under compression. Check out my build thread for pictures of my set up.

why? you think it would rub too much?
It doesn't rub as much as I thought it would to be honest.

Normal driving it doesn't rub at all - parking lot manners are great. It does rub when loaded up with people or under really hard compression. I'll be rolling my fenders slightly to accommodate the larger tires as I love the look and compliance that the larger sidewall gives me.

For me, the price was right and I was in the market for stickier tires so these fit the bill - very happy with my choice.

My concern with +1.5" diameter difference is not the potential rubbing but the change in torque delivery profile and even more so the significant difference in speedometer reading (6% slower reading than actual speed).

Just my opinion and preference. Might be meaningless considerations to everyone else. YMMV, etc. etc. [twothumb]

As long as you're aware of the speedometer difference it's not a big deal... to me.

I did notice a SMALL drop in power but it's an overall difference and not specific to a set rpm or what have you - my experience is different as it includes the X-47 turbo which perhaps doesn't increase the low end torque much but does provide a fantastic top end.

Hope you find a suitable 'meaty' tire!
