Agreed, and this is an example of why I wish more people collected it. I think it's fun to do comparisons with legitimate data. I could lie and make up numbers, but there's no fun in that.

All of my logs are third gear with the exception of one or two that I don't really use in any comparisons. Comparatively, to remove the driver/environment/weather/etc. variables, my FiST shows to be between 465-475 rpm/s using a comparable rpm range.

Wouldn't gear ratio as well as tire height have a decent effect on "rpm per minute". I mean if the Fost is seeing a taller tire ( it is ) and a taller gear ratio ( it is ), that would mean that while the rpm per second maybe the same, the speed increase per second would be a good bit different.

For example.... Take a stock mustang with a 2.73 rearend and do a "rpm per second" then swap in a 4.10 and you'll freak out at the increase in "rpm per second". But what you would also notice is... At the end on the pull, one is going 110mph and the other is going 85mph, lol.

And tires of course have the same effect. I'm pretty sure that not only does the focus have a taller final drive, but its tires are a good amount taller as well. In this case... The Focus still wins, lol.

Actually, yes. The more applicable measure of comparison would probably be mph to cover the 'distance' aspect of the comparison because we really only concluded that our engines are advancing at the same measure. Nice catch.

It will hold comparable from FiST to FiST, assuming OEM tires, roughly.

Here is a starting point.

You will probably need to keep the number of items shown on the real time gauge screen at 1, in order to log all of these PIDs. I also recommend getting Virtual dyno for your PC, so you can read these datalogs. That same .net website has info on how you setup the parameters for the Fiesta ST as it is not listed in the applicable autos for VDyno. Then you can start to read and understand HP and torque. You must pick a smooth, flat, straight road with little to no traffic, start in 3rd gear at 2000 RPM, do not change gears or deaccelerate until you have pushed the logging button to end your datalog. Make two runs, one after the other, under the same conditions as much as possible, each time. Then you can purchase Accesstuner for $150.00 and the real fun begins. I started with an etune from Randy, and am now working on my own e40 tune.

Depending on what's being evaluated, different monitors paint a clearer picture. For general logging I generally only recommend the default parameters plus all four ignition corrections whereas an individual part is best represented by more applicable parameters.

For now I would just get used to using the AP3 and making sure your data collection/analyzation process is consistent and repeatable. Try out Datazap.me, Excel, and Virtual Dyno as different programs for viewing, understanding, and comparing what you collect. The more familiar you become with the prices the easier it will become to do comparison testing if you decide to try an upgrade and that would be the most help of all because we have very scarce data regarding individual parts currently.

When in doubt just post whatever you collect to the Datazap datalog thread in the Self Tuning & Datalogging section of the forum where we can all discuss it.
