Hey guys! Looks like a few of you are running our programming. It's a bit tricky to monitor all of these forums, but feel free to give me a call if you need any help with dialing in your programs. :)

I have been running a tune that Randy did for me for some time now.
I am extremely happy with the performance of my car.
I do still have some changes in store so a few future tweaks would be great.

Just got my new ST (only driven 1000km) and is thinking of getting a tune for it. I wanna keep the warranty on it, so it must be Mp215 that is the way to go? I also want as much torque at high rpm as possible as a NA engine without loosing too much midrange torque - which tune is best for that?

Thanks in advance.

If you go with Mp215 you can't customize the tune anymore unless you get an MR tune (which isn't out yet), and even then its not a custom tune like you would get from randy or any other etuner. That being said, if you go the custom route you can't go wrong with a mountune branded/purchased one since you get an etune free. I have the mp215 with the canned mtune and i had the cobb apv3 running the ots stage 1 map before.
The mtune feels more progressive/refined than the ots stage 1 tune, it may be from the limiters in 1st-2nd gears that arent on the ots tune.

Iam running stage 1 and picked up a custom tune from Randy at Mountune and let me tell you my car feels fantastic again. After Cobb's many updates on their ots tunes they watered them down especially after v103. My car lost that sudden burst of torque. Psi rarely went over 19. Randy's tune brought back that raw torq again. Now I always get 21-22 when I wot. Its 91 Oct tune that hits peak psi early in the power band which it what I like for city driving. Shoot Randy and email or call he's a pretty cool guy hell hook you up.

Did you datalog for him to get the custom tune or is it the tune you got when you bought AP from them; when you choose from those various options at the time of purchase?

Its a current tune from when I bought the ap from FSWERKS when he worked their dec 2013. Sadly I haven't had the time to data log.

Wasn't there something posted from people that bought the FSWerks tune being SOL getting their custom tunes?

So if I am reading this correctly, only about 10-15% of owners are getting their cars properly tuned on a dyno? I must say I am very surprised. I see so many cars on my friends dyno that were either e-tuned, chipped, or OTS tunes and the differences after getting a proper tuning session done. The results are night and day. Dyno tuning should be considered the most important engine mod, just like tires are the most important suspension mod.

Depends on what you call a proper tune. I have an e-tune/ protune by Justin at Freektune. I consider this way of tuning better than a dyno tune personally. You may be able to get great numbers with a dyno tune, but without spending a fortune on dyno time, matching a, street datalogged, protune will be difficult. I find the drivability with the e-tunes to be better as well. You will never quite match driving conditions with a dyno tune.

Dyno tuning isn't just about numbers, it is about the ability to map the car for all loads while under controlled conditions. It is faster and much safer than street tuning, or multiple datalog/email sessions.

Street e-tunes are by far the worst way to tune a car, if you must e-tune then you should be on a dyno with a competent operator.

You are right to say that dyno tuning is safer and faster, no doubt about that. I also realize that dyno tuning isn't all about numbers, but you find that that is what a lot of customers are concerned about. I have no desire to remote tune with the e-tuner of my choice on someone else's dyno and pay them $50-$100 and hour to do so. The best way for me would be to datalog at a drag strip.

Are you talking about data logging for your protune with Justin? Just sending him the logs and him sending back a revised map based off those numbers in the log?

I've never driven to work on a dyno, so I've been really pleased with my street tune. Definitely not as quick or safe as a dyno tune, but I've had a few friends that regretted getting a dyno tune after later getting a street tune. Ymmv.

Thank you! At least someone agrees with me, lol :). Just like you and others have said, Dyno tunes are safer and quicker...I'm not trying to take away from that. I have spent a lot of money and time on dynos over the years with many different cars. With that I have also spent a lot of time over the years datalogging for street tunes. Both will make good power. I just prefer the price and results of a street tune. I've even played with ATR and my own tunes a bit with my previous Subaru WRX and with the FiST...I just trust a professional tuner for a tune that I'm going to be daily/ track driving with more than myself at this moment, lol. I prefer to datalog for a tune at the drag strip...if I have a 1/4 mile strip close by, but I only have a 1/8 mile strip close to me at the moment, so the next best thing is an interstate with an 80 mph speed limit so with a third gear pull, I'm only going over 5 or so mph over. Now, for the folks who tune in 4th, I would advise not to on the street. Too risky for my blood.
