I know my manual doesn't say to use a friction disc when installing a new timing belt. The 1.0L EcoBoost requires it when changing timing belt and considerably more torque than the 1.6L. 300NM + 90° compared to the 100NM + 90° + 2 sec pause + 15°.
Makes me wonder if a revised manual might require a friction washer.
I know Adam from TunePlus did got his crank keyed in the trash Fiesta. But might just be overkill to pull the engine for that. https://www.youtube.com/@AdamBrunson
Seems like having the washer contribute significant amounts of friction would mess with the torque readings. That might partially explain why the 1.0L would have 3x the torque requirement of our 1.6L that doesn't have the washer.
Avoid a single mass if you're going with an unsprung clutch, as the OE is. RTS makes 2 stages of a sprung clutch and single mass flywheel if you want to go that rute. https://www.sico-developments.co.uk/collections/vendors?q=RTS Performance
I have the single mass and sprung organic clutch(non twin friction). Worked like OE until I trashed the engine.
It's been a couple of weeks since correcting the timing and fitting the new clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder. So far there's been no issues and the car is feeling great!
Yesterday me and some friends went to Caffeine and Machine and crashed a Golf meet. Those in the US probably haven't heard of it, but it's a pub/meet up spot for car people, and was packed for a Tuesday evening. You can get beer, burgers, and wander around the car park chatting with owners.
Most guys in my circle drive Hondas and the Fiesta always looks so out of place!
EK9, DC5 and an FD2:
I parked next to a 500hp Porsche engined Golf:
Next track day is at Bedford Autodrome in July, hopefully I'll be on track for more than about 20 minutes this time.
One thing I've always hated about the Euro Fiestas is the crappy little screen that we have. I picked up one of the Chinese Android units from Ali Express and got that fitted this morning.
Old one out:
New one in:
I had to remove some of the plastic inside the dash to get it to clear, but other than that it was plug and play. It came with a bunch of accessories for 5G/WiFi/cameras etc which I left out as all I wanted was CarPlay. It was around £200 shipped which is considerably cheaper than trying to import all of the OEM stuff from the US and go down that route. One small problem is I can't reach the screen while wearing a harness, but maybe that's a good thing!

I would have gladly accepted the Euro/UK crappy little screen if we could have also had your 2 door version in exchange for our 'preferred' screens here.

The Focus ST170 rear discs and carriers are in. I'm not sure if there will be any performance benefit, but visually they look so much better than the standard ones. The side profile used to look absolutely ridiculous with the 330mm front discs and the tiny little rear ones!

Comparison of the two:
I've been eyeing up a Coolerworx shifter but need to convince myself that I need it. Maybe something for next year.
Put the car on a bit of a diet today. I’ve been shopping for a new daily as this car has got out of hand. Once I’ve picked that up I’ll probably strip the front out too as it will only be used for track.
The front passenger seat needs replacing too as the stock seats are so heavy! I’m not sure what other weight saving opportunities there are without going to the extreme.
Finally bought a new daily, so the rest of the interior can go. I've been eyeing up some lightweight door cards to replace the standard ones, and also a replacement passenger seat. If anyone is thinking of stripping the interior out of their daily, do NOT do it, it is so loud!
I also picked up some EBC RPX pads to replace the stock Pumaspeed pads. I was never happy with the pads that came with the big brake kit, so hoping these will be a step up:
Finding replacement pads was interesting. Pumaspeed sell a few replacement pads on their website but they're limited and marked up. I found a few similar listings for big brake kits and one of the most popular was V-maxx, which had identical callipers to the Pumaspeed ones. I ordered these pads which were listed for a V-maxx big brake kit and they fit perfectly. When I received the pads, the box said they were for AP racing brakes or an Aston Martin Vantage! My guess is that AP racing are the OEM behind all of these big brake kits as there are many kits for many cars by many manufacturers, but they are all identical.
The bite is pretty insane on those RPXs, I found them a little hard to modulate and wasn't super happy with how long they lasted considering the price. They're also pretty hard on rotors. Maybe the big brake kit will help but I'm looking at going to endurance pads to hopefully get more than one track day out of them.
Yeah, that is the exact size Pilot Sport 5 summer street tire I wanted, but we are just not allowed to have here in the states, at all (like not even shipped over by one of the Brit/Euro tire vendors/retailers, for any price!).
