I know that going too big of IC can increase the felt lag but V3 is only 10% bigger than V1 (surface area per the product page) so I don't think it should make that much of a difference. Any chances of boost leak?
Surface area (external) is not what would effect throttle feel, it would be IC internal volume and pressure drop.

Ive had my CPE long enough now and drive my car infrequently enough that my memory is probably not the most reliable, but I never noticed any difference in drive feel after installing it.

I know that but that's the comparison that Whoosh's page makes (62+% increase over the OEM intercooler & 10% increase of surface area over the original whoosh intercooler). V3 being bigger is implied.

Check out Jeff's videos on youtube Graysxt or something like that. He goes over his dyno charts with an X47 and shows that the hybrid turbos do pull further throught the rev range vs the stock turbo if not as strongly as the S280. I thought his charts looked pretty good. He has a thread on here too but sold his ST a few months ago. His results are partly what sold me on a whoosh hybrid.
yeah i was just getting the wrong impression from @Stkid93 and a hybrid turbo sounds perfect; i almost got a used x37 4 or 5 months back from a forum member but was late to pull the trigger. based on the curves that user posted it would've been a perfect city/weekend country road Fiesta. he was selling the whoosh ported/ceramic coated manifold with it (which is what made it a screaming deal) so i'm not sure if that helped with the numbers at all

edit: there's a smoking tire youtube one take video of a fiesta with an x37 running ethanol if you wanna get a best idea of what it's like if you can't get in one yourself. i highly recommend any and all people considering a hybrid and not able to ride in one to check it out

"it made 283 to the wheels and 328 ft/lbs of torque on e30"

haha i love the smoking tire, ive watched that particular video and the other "big turbo" video they have probably 4 times each at least. If you guys hear of anyone selling the following turbos please DM me

- whoosh hybrid
-s280
any other turbos similar to these

I will have a turbo for sale soon. My car has a 2560 on it now. Once I do a couple track days, I'll either sell my current turbo (2560 and Wor modified manifold) or my low mileage S280 with Airtec manifold and TS wastegate. I should know by the 2nd week of May if you can wait that long.

I’m sure you’d have plenty of interest either way, but I’d also be interested your S280 if you decide to sell that.

Was this always on the factory snail?? (I have the same IC sitting in my storage here, brand new in packaging, uninstalled.)

No. But if the V1 is still adequate for the S280 then the V3 is definitely overkill for the stock turbo for anyone that isn’t tracking their car.

Just like how everyone says that the BA, Pro Alloy, Wagner, old DHM, etc., HUGE ICs would not cause any pressure drop lag at all on the FACTORY turbo.

But I do not believe them. [wink]

i have a cpe on a x37 which is probably one of the smallest hybrid turbos available. it takes longer to burb, fart, hickup or sneeze than the turbo lag is.
...fwiw the first of the mountune fmics out didnt keep up with that turbo. just saying

I’m installing the whoosh v3 on my stock turbo this month I’ll let you know if I lose any throttle response or spool time. The v3 is very large and really meant for larger turbos. So we’ll see. I had a giant front mount on my srt4 years ago (similar to the dead hook intercooler for our cars) with stock turbo and the spool was fine. Granted I bought the car like that and never got to experience it’s stock intercooler

you should just cap it at 400WHP. you're grenading the stock engine at that point. regardless of turbo or upgraded internals. based on everything i've read i'm not believing any 450WHP claim unless it's $10-20K completely rebuilt engine.

edit: there's a dude (i think his name was mrx330) who went from the mrx turbo to a borg warner turbo and really pushed the limits of what a streetable fiesta could do. i have no idea what kinda power he put down but he damaged the engine shortly after completing his build and was never heard from on the forum again. a few people know him in IRL. don't know the details but he shared a lot of knowledge on here but was a bit...stubborn.

edit the edit: and to get those higher numbers you need a lot of real R&D behind it. like the Peron s280 kit or the WOR Fabrications full GTX2860R build as a baseline or have a garage custom fabricate you parts (which i think is what mrx330 did with his borg warner build). and then you need to find a reputable tuner who has the green light to risk turning your engine into a grenade
I’ll also include that this happens to a lot of dudes that run the Mountune short and long blocks. I’ve yet to see one in the wild that’s lasted or put the power down. We got a lot of dudes that don’t have money on hand to actually get a built engine when shit goes wrong and we never see them again

The SRT4 Skittles also had a (0.7 liter) larger displacement engine, with a bigger factory turbo than our rides, so there is that factor as well. [wink]
