Since vdyno numbers are all over the place, one way to compare performance/mods is by posting these times. 4th gear only, no shifting. Post your mods, tune, and elevation. Just go to your logs and calculate the difference between these two times. Sometimes the MPH is a decimal, just round up or down to the nearest whole number.

Stock hardparts. E30 Flashtune (custom in progress)
ASL: 597

60-100: 8.72 seconds

Seems stranger, now. Why not a 35-90 pull to explore the torque curve? I’ve got an X-47 and I’m not shifting until 6.5-7k revs, which leaves me in 3rd util 90.

My redline isn't bumped up so I can only hit 86mph. Everybody can hit 100mph in 4th gear. 4th gear also reduces chances of wheelspin that people experience with higher HP cars.

But 40-100 in 4th hides the huge difference in torque curves between stock turbo and hybrid/BT cars.

Why would that hide your torque curve? I always see greater peak torque in 4th gear anyway. The point in measuring 40-100 is compare the rate of acceleration.

If you've got a stock turbo, my FiST (with an X-47) has a much broader torque curve that makes > 5.5K revs useful while you should be shifting at 5.5K. A BT car doesn't even start to pull hard until 3.5K. A 3rd gear pull make way more sense. Only a monster is going to have traction issues in 3rd and most of those guys have LSDs.

None of that is relevant. This isn't about shift points based on torque, it's about measuring each cars ability to accelerate within that broad range. That's why it's a 1 gear log, we're not looking to measure how fast you can shift or when you should shift. It's also about comparing people's setups. There are a lot of questions about the different builds, it's a way to compare without skewed vdyno graphs. E30 hybrids may post similar times as BT 91 cars, but we won't know unless people post their times. Why not just post yours?

EDIT: If the issue is that nobody has 4th gear logs, then a 35-85 would be comparable I think, but including speeds that are exclusive to those who've bumped up their redlines would omit a lot of people.

There’s a reason that we do full pulls; we want to see the performance of the engine over the entire operating range. It matters that hybrid offers more up top and BTs offer much more but at the cost of lower end. The fastest way for me to get from 40 to 100 is different that the fastest way for you to.

40-100 in 4th is arbitrary because a hard pull from 4th is the wrong gear and 100 doesn’t top it out. 35-85 (or 82 or whatever) is less so because it’s the right gear for a hard pull at that speed.

Maybe 35-80 for a nice round number. Looking at the logs, it looks like I'm bumping redline at just about 85. 35mph also starts us at about 2700rpm, and 80 would put us around 6100rpm.

It seems this thread has turned into a debate.
Rather than debate, each have their own thread.
Change this thread title to:
40-100 Times (4th Gear Pull Only)
35-85 Times (3rd Gear Pull)

Each can have their cake and eat it too.
In the spirit of mutual cooperation, each provide a link to the other's thread.
The public can weigh in by responding to one thread, or both.

3rd, 35-85: 6.47 on an almost-finished Dizzy E30 tune, X-47R, the rest of my mods. on my profile page. I'm rolling on at 2500 so I'm pretty sure that I could knock a couple of .1's off by rolling on earlier.

https://www.fiestastforum.com/threads/racelogic-testing-stock-vs-stage-2.9197/#post-187123

More info on what I did. Third gear pull 40-80 racelogic

87 stock 6.5
93 stage 1 intake ma performance 6.5
93 stage 2 map intercooler added 6.3
E30 6 flat
X37 E30 5 seconds.

Want to test the 2867 gen 2 aux TBD
40-80 3rd gear logs with 65* weather and 597' ASL
I did 3x 3rd gear pulls on an E30 revision everything stock except step colder spark plugs. I take the logs running in both directions because it's not perfectly flat.

Run 1: 5.5 seconds
Run 2: 5.6
Run 3: 5.6

I've estimated my car at about 199whp 272wtq with the dynojet 1.09 correction factor and smoothing of 6. I think dynojet reads very high, but everybody insists I use it to compare to everybody else's.

Why does this thread only have 16 replies? Is there another thread I haven't found yet? Make so much more sense to compare times than Vdyno results.
It’s been a while. As you could see from the debate above people were focused more on “winning” with gear changes, or short shifting. They were missing the point which was simply to compare rates of acceleration between setups. 1 gear, and whatever the goal posts people want to establish. How many seconds to go from 30-80, 60-100, whatever.

The mazdaspeed crowd wasn’t interested in dyno numbers because they could be fudged in all kinds of ways. This keeps it simple, how fast does your car accelerate from this speed to this speed.

Yeah, that is what I'm saying. The GTI/Golf R crowd is huge into acceleration times and not dyno numbers. I don't know why I didn't realize this sooner, but it makes complete sense. I honestly don't care if my car is slower than yours, blah blah....I just want to know how it compares to others in a way that is not skewed.

Just for statistics, my car via dragy during a 4th gear pull it accelerates from 60-100 in 4.87 seconds. s280 turbo, bosch 30% injectors, Nostrum HPFP, pro alloy intercooler, Tune+ tuning, milltek exhaust, etc. 60-120 is 7.99 seconds during the same pull. 60-130 it has been a 10.17 which is currently #1 on the dragy leaderboard for Fiesta's!
