Got my MTC "Cobb knockoff" intercooler installed. Quite a challenge getting everything to fit as the intercooler is pretty large and fills up every possible fractional inch of space. Some cutting had to be done to get the lower splash shield back on, but nothing major. Managed to do it surgically and cleanly enough that it doesn't look too bad. I'll probably seal the exposed areas up with flashing tape or something to keep excess water out of there during rainy weather driving.

Other than that the car looks incredibly stock. I left the front "braces" in on the lower air dam to keep it looking that way on purpose and it totally fills up that gap with the core. No end tank visibility at all.

As for performance the car didn't exhibit a rise in charge temps above 9F during third and fourth gear pulls to redline and it even drop charge temps in the mid range before coming back up again. Boost feels like it comes on a bit quicker and stronger than stock, though logic tells me that my butt dyno lies to me on that. It feels better in the upper rev range because of the cooler charge temps, of course. Prior to install I did a few pulls on the highway in 42F weather (it's been beautiful this weekend here in Chicago!) and managed to soak up to 73F, which is a delta of 31 degrees! Needless to say this is a much welcome improvement.

The core passed a boost leak test as well. It holds pressure extremely well using a home made compressor and adapter setup courtesy of a good friend and it doesn't leak boost during driving, either. I'm still hitting my boost targets per the Stratified tune and tapering off accordingly at 24psi. I'm adding more spark during pulls again which indicates the car is ready for a revision and can take more power from my fuel, so that will be coming soon as well.

For the $350 I paid with shipping for this thing it is phenomenal. The welds could be better, but they get the job done. Very satisfied.

I'll post logs and pics when I get to my computer at work. :)

I highly recommend this core unless you fear trimming or fighting with the lower splash guard like I had to. Very worth the money in my opinion!
I think I'm sold on this guy. I've been waiting patiently for the right intercooler at the right price and this seems to be the one, now if only I can find it at the price you described!

Yea I saw that too I was like wtf lol
Wow! The price went nuts. I imagine the seller ran out of them but doesn't want to remove the listing. Keep an eye on it. I've been testing it pretty thoroughly and it is a very good performing intercooler. I'm very happy with it; especially at the price I got it for.

You could always email him to see what's up. His contact info is on the sale page on eBay:

No? I bought that one. It's sitting on my car. It looks exactly like the picture and looks very comparable to a Cobb unit. The pricing is probably a stock issue to avoid having to take the listing down.

Yea that is definitely the guy and the correct intercooler. I would imagine like common stated that he raised the price so no one orders it instead of removing the listing. He would be half retarded to raise the price on a item that is solely purchased due to its low price...

As suspected:

Hey _____,

That performs very very well... The price has gone up because I have none in stock until next week... Next week the price will be back down to around the £200 mark... Tell them to hang on it will be worth the wait...

Thanks for getting the readings, great job

It's totally a Cobb knockoff and it was $300. I got mine shipped to my door for $350 total. He raised the price after that to around $375 or $400 shipped because they were selling like hot cakes and still cheap as hell.

The story as I understand it is that these are Cobb components made in the same workshop by the same people. How true that is, I do not know. I don't know how this is being done unless Cobb is outsourcing. This is what the seller has told me. The core is definitely the same and the end tanks look incredibly similar; minus the Cobb emblems. It is very identical and I can tell you from the data I have on other Cobb intercoolers and the data I have gathered from this one that they perform the same as well.

Thanks for tracking that down commonplatypus.
No prob! I have an open email chain with the guy because I basically interrogated him over email prior to my purchase and he stayed with me all through shipping. He even sent it over via UPS Next Day because I had put my order in just an hour after he raised the price. The seller is a really great dude and got my intercooler to my door in Chicago in three days all the way from the UK. It blows my mind how he did that. The install was a pain in the ass and required cutting the bottom plastic bit a decent amount (Made easier by use of a sonic crafter type tool), but that is simply because the core is so damned large to begin with. I probably could have done it without cutting; but I'm not that clever. The cooler never breaks single digit charge temps unless I'm rowing multiple gears from 2nd to the top of 4th.

If anyone needs any data on it, please don't hesitate to ask. I love gathering and sharing data. :D
