Is the TurboSmart 14psi wastegate worth it over the included one? What advantages does it have?
If you're just running 93 octane, id ask your tuner which he prefers. The probably spend more time on building wastrgate strategy tables than anything else in a file. Wastegate control is really the reason they charge more for big turbo tunes.

If your going to run e85, 3.5/4bar sensors and 30+ psi, the turbo smart is probably mandatory.

I personally have the turbo smart wastegate on my aux fueled s280.

Depends how much boost you want to run. Basically if you’re going to stay on stock fuel system then stick with the included actuator. if you’re upgrading fuel system, the upgraded actuator will allow you to run more boost before maxing out WGDC.

lol, this thread is usually pretty active so was hoping to get some more opinions from others.

My tuner said surge is expected in the lower RPMS if I'm going WOT.
My tune is almost done, so is it normal to experience this?

Is anyone else experiencing this on their cars?

Its hard to tell what's going on here. A log with throttle percent to boost pressure would probably be more effective to tell what going on. I would imagine your throttle input isn't as steady as you think, or the road grade is causing the load.to fluctuate.

You're turbo isn't going to surge under partial load, the real kind of surge that damages wheels, as in the turbo is outflowing the intake side of the engine. That requires high shaft speeds and high intake pressure.i.e. full load. So I'm assuming you're just hearing the sound of boost backing up under low load thru a ported compressor shroud and partially closed or closing throttle.

Thanks for the response. My tuner is Stratified. Getting a log with throttle percent to boost pressure would be a good idea so I'll do that.

My car is not in danger, just more of an annoyance when I'm driving casually and decide I want to speed up at around 2500 rpm... my acceleration feels like it's initially "gagging" or something. "WOT" gets thrown around a lot, and from my understanding, it means to go 100%, pedal down like you're datalogging. So I'm not sure if there is some confusion in the terminology, but I'm simply applying pressure on the throttle to speed up (like 35 to 50, not flooring it to hit redline as fast as possible).

And to not misquote what my tuner actually said:
In terms of surge, if it happens just in the lower RPMS when you go WOT, and quickly subsides it is going to be fine. Lots of turbos get some surge in that area. It should not continue in the higher RPMs.

I mean, if this is "normal", then it is what it is. But sounds like no one else is really experiencing this in here, lol.

I do not think it’s normal, I never experienced it with either of my tunes by two different tuners. My first did mange to not tune out what seemed to be throttle lift hang. My second tuner took care of everything.

"Mine" hasn't done anything resembling that action in the video, either. Pretty weird.

I also get a weird surge of sort with my x47r (4k miles on it) under similar conditions as you, AzNightmare, and also tuned by Stratified. I don't really hear the surge in the video though, but just going based on what you're saying, it sounds like what I feel too.

The previous owner of my car did the turbo and chose Stratified. If it were up to me, I would not have.

Planning to get re-tuned by TunePlus ASAP.

Who were your two tuners?

It could be a mechanical issue, but the car should not make any kind of sound like that during acceleration.
If it's mechanical, what do you think could be the issue? Anything specific I should look into?

Is there something weird happening with your intake and it’s collapsing an intake hose somewhere? Grasping at straws here probably but that could produce a similar sound

I guess I wouldn't know unless I have a camera in my engine bay.
My intake setup is a "mountune style" stock box + hose, ramair silicone hose, whoosh crossover pipe
---
Once I do a datalog of the above situation, do I just put it in datazap.me? What should I be looking for?

I’m entirely ignorant to data zap but to test this theory just remove your air filter for a few minute drive and see if it goes away

What do you use for a bypass valve? I hope it's not a gofast bits tinker toy....

No offense to dminer, but I would bet everything I own it's not a collapsing intake tube. That just isn't going to happen.

Btw this should be easy for your tuner or anyone really to diagnose with logs. Where are the datalogs? This is not the way to do this.

Just using the factory one. I sent my datalogs to my tuner. Just waiting.....................................................
