Jason’s (Dizzy) response was in the original post. Tuners won’t be able to tune out codes, the biggest one that affects our platform specifically is the P0420 for catless downpipes. Don’t even get me started on catless street cars... Tuning isn’t really the issue being pushed at the moment. The reason Subbie guys are screwed is because they delete air pumps, TGV, cats etc.
Ya but a lot of the catted aftermarket downpipes are only running 200 cel cats which will trigger the code on our cars when tuned with hybrid or bigger turbo . Ask me how I know.

This is why I am thinking of going with modding a stock downpipe to flow better or hoping COBB manages to get their 400 cel gesi downpipe E.O.d from CARB. They took it off the market though till if/when it does unfortunately so you can no longer buy one now.

So, as someone in California, running a Cobb Stage 2 package with no other performance mods, as I read this, am I now legal to go to my first smog check when it comes up this time next year? I had assumed that I'd need to put the car back to stock tune and put some drive cycles into the ECU. It would be very nice if I can keep it as-is, show my smog guy an EO number and get passed.

I work in the performance aftermarket industry with relations to many tuning companies. I know the pressure they're under to stay in business with the EPA cracking down. It's also why I didn't go any further than Stage 2 on my own car.

Yes you are legal, You may want to Flash their latest version of Stage 2 but otherwise you are legal and have notIng to worry about.

Sweet. I emailed Cobb support to see what I'd need to do, and if they will send me an EO sticker. Might have to tie my home-made oil catch can lines out of the way and stick the OEM hose back on, but if that's it, I'm happy.

There is another tune in my Accessport that the original owner might have put in there, or it may have been in the tuner directly from Cobb. It allows me to toggle to a "economy" tune with my cruise control buttons, pulling out all of the boost and neutering the car for 87 octane. I figured it would be cool to use it to save some gas, but I've honestly never used it.

that's the ECO MAP. each tune that is based off the Accessport (Cobb or otherwise) has 5 MAP slots that you can change with the cruise control buttons. usually normal, ECO, 91/93, valet, and an extra I think

Ahh, gotcha. If Cobb gets back to me, I'll ask if any updated CARB tunes will retain the ECO tune. Not that I've ever let anyone borrow my car, but if I did, I'd put it in that tune first :)

I emailed Mountune to get an E.O. Number for the later cars but got no response. Maybe if a group of guys emailed them we could get the MP215 going again for the post 2016 cars as another legal CARB option.

The MP215 option was bought and paid for, as well as CARB approved by Ford, it was only for the early FiSTs as an upgrade option.
You would need Ford's approval and a new E.O. number to be issued for the additional years of cars.
I imagine you can figure the odds of that happening.

I suspect they didn't sell enough of them to make a good enough profit in the later years. Too bad. It's a great tune.

I believe they had already decided to discontinue the FiST here in the US.

I’ll be cranky if my CEL lights up with a 200 cel cat because I put it on there specifically to pass emissions inspections here in NC. I’m just going catless + defouler if the light comes on cuz fuck em.

Fuck who? The EPA? Because you decided to tear a perfectly good cat off your car? Ok.

Well shoot. Cobb says they can’t give me an EO decal without proof of purchase of the full Stage 2 kit. I bought the pieces used. Wonder if my smog guy will accept the EO number.

Hmmmmm maybe if you only bought your AP new you should just ask them for a stage 1 sticker its the same number and sticker for both.
On mine I called them and then sent proof off my AP purchase from Mountune as I bought Mountune‘s Open tune stage 3 package. Cobb sent me the sticker so unless you bought your AP used you should be good.

Unfortunately I got the whole shebang from a friend who was putting his car back to stock before selling it. And I have no way to contact the guy, this was back in early’16. I’m thinking of talking with my smog guy and asking if having the EO number will be good enough. He’s pretty cool.

Here's a longshot...

Anyone out there with a Stage 1 or 2 kit with an extra sticker that they don't need? :) Or want to request one for a friend? :) :)

That has become more valuable now. Your best bet is selling yours and getting a new one with a tune and requesting a sticker from Cobb.
