What would you replace your Fiesta ST with?

Current prices have made my decision. New tranny and another (almost) 100K miles of fun before I have to submit to some battery-powered SUV thing. Several grand for replacement parts is now cheap!

Hate to say it but yes. I have wanted to take my wife's past mom-rocket SUVs to an occasional track event and both have been denied on grounds of they are too tall(width to height requirements). We had an Edge Sport and currently have an Explorer ST.

One event has allowed SUVs but the only one to show up was a lowered CRV. It was also not a full track day but a trackcross event which is like autocross but on an actual road course with A to B finishes instead of a full lap.

I dont blame them though. A 700hp tippy trippy Jeep isnt exactly event insurance material if you know what i mean.

And that's the issue - it runs like a friggin top. Sounds like square-cut track gears at this point, 3rd pops under load now (5th tells me to f^ck off already). It's just a matter of a little slight-of-hand with the wife.....

I have my Fiesta replacement on order It'll be a few months though. I've driven the new twins now and can't wait. Everything great about the old car, and they've improved/fixed everything about the old car. knocked it out of the park IMO

Did Boreham ever produce any of those Mk1 RS2000s in LHD which were not full-on rally spec builds?

Or is that what you are actually seeking, and will just go for the 'vintage', and over 50 year old import EPA/CARB/safety exemptions?

That A-M 'estate coupe' is INSANE!!

I'm not sure if they were built in Boreham or Cologne. If they were lhd they would have probably been built in Cologne. Imagine being able to buy a brand new one in 1974 for 2,000 pounds! Look at today's prices IF you can find one to buy!

Yeah, I can keep the Shelby of Fiesta but not both.

Trust me ive tried. Most give me either "our event insurance wont cover it" or the good old "too much of a rollover risk".

I even had one event organizer offer to lend me their Spec Miata if i signed up without using the Explorer ST. I politely declined.

Man the car market in the USA sucks hard. Every car that seems even a fraction of the fun / driver first mentality is way over the price of a FiST.

Maybe a Civic Si? Even that bloated, practically an Accord sedan is msrp $27k. Just let me buy a small hatchback with some grunt.

So far... nothing has tempted me. If we got the Yaris GR in the states it might've been a contender... if mine were totalled (and I couldn't find another FiST quickly--read: forced to choose) I'd go for a new JCW Mini or Audi RS3... or maybe an obscure/iconic used JDM (I e. 94 Celica GT4). All that said, I'm glad I don't have to choose.

Another FiST? That's the problem. It's kind of unique for it's size/power/practicality/styling. Civic Type R styling just looks a little weird to me. (no insult intended I'm sure it's a wonderful vehicle) I would say FoST but they're big and heavy.

Cousin has a lime green regular Fiesta. She's talked about having taken it in for shifting concerns. She tried to warn me that I'd have the same issues.

I explained that she doesn't have a traditional automatic transmission... that it's a dry-clutch automatic transmission that's being shifted by a computer. Too many variables for a computer to reliably shift a dry clutch. Wet clutches are much more consistent, durable.

No. They were 5 speed manuals, only. They were an extra cost option, too. That's why they didn't sell.
I believe that for the last year, '16, they came with 6 speeds. I'm chasing that unicorn.
EDIT: Apparently, I was wrong. Special performance versions in EU got our transmission, but not here.

That looks cool. Hopefully, you'll become insanely rich soon and then you can tell us if it's as fun as the FiST!
If I was insanely rich, I'd buy a real awd Fiesta rally car and bribe/pay to make it street legal. Probably not gonna happen . . .

This particular dct was extremely problematic where seals would fail which contaminated the clutches and then it would shake and shutter pretty badly. It also had tcm failures. Ford had 2 or 3 tsbs covering it so it didn't cost me anything in terms of money. I had the seals clutches replaced twice and the tcm once. Now at 159k it's finally starting to go out on me. I may grab an 09 yaris 5 speed as my next work commute beater
