I reckon it's been a while since I've done an update, and I'm about halfway through a 5,500ish mile road trip to visit Family and Friends for the Holidays in Virginia, so here we go!

Did an oil change at 23,840 miles before departure, about 1,700 miles before my normal 5K oil/filter change interval.

I drive like the Bandit, so I left Prescott, AZ at about 3am this past Saturday with the goal of completing 1,300 miles to Little Rock, AR in around 17-20hrs.

Here's a pic of the valley just west of Albuquerque, NM on I-40. I didn't take many pics of the drive since it requires a lot concentration to drive far and fast, but if I remember correctly it was about 12-14 degrees driving through most of New Mexico. That giant white building to the right is a Casino, and Albuquerque is just over that hill.

I made it to Little Rock, AR in 17hrs and 20mins with 4 Fuel/Food/Pee Pitstops over 1,282 miles, averaging 74.1mph, my new record.

Stayed in a Best Western and successfully had the worst night's sleep of EVAR when the people in the room above me let their kids set up what sounded like a bowling alley using grenades until 1:30am regardless of my complaints to the front desk.

With roughly 4hrs of sleep after a 17hr drive, I was back on the road at 7am with the second leg of the trip being from Little Rock, AR to a friends house in Evington, VA.

For anyone road tripping, Love's gas stations are your friend. The coffee is good, the food is decent for truck stop food and they have showers if you need them. This was a fuel stop just outside of Memphis, TN.

For those of you who haven't been to or driven through Memphis, Tennessee, they've got the 9th largest Pyramid in the world, which also happens to be a Bass Pro Shop that you can't miss as you cross the Mississippi River. It's 321feet tall with base sides around 590feet. I haven't been in there due to time constraints when I pass through, but apparently it has a hotel, restaurants, bowling alleys and an archery range. Maybe I'll plan a stay there on my next drive through the area!

I made it to my friend's house in Evington, VA, totaling 882miles in 14hrs flat after dealing with terrible traffic through Tennessee. That put me at an average of 63mph over the second leg of the trip, not stellar, but not bad considering how terrible people drive in TN.

I lived in Bedford, VA for 2.5yrs, so I decided to visit a few friends around the area and go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway(while it's still open before snow).

I've driven the entirety of the BRP in my Jeep Cherokee XJ and all of the surrounding Off-Road trails many times over, but it's nice to just cruise it in the ST and enjoy my time here.

This is overlooking the Peaks of Otter, which is just north of Bedford, VA. There are 3 peaks of the Peaks of Otter: Sharp Top, Flat Top and Harkening Hill. This picture is overlooking Abbott Lake(and Sharp Top Mountain) which lies in between all 3 of the peaks, at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. Sharp Top(pictured) is 3,875ft tall, whereas Flat Top is the tallest peak of the three at 4,001ft tall.

I filmed a YouTube video here about 4yrs ago on my Jeep Cherokee XJ, roughly 150yds from where I shot these pictures that has about 340k views if you care to watch it. I've done about 50lbs of weight reduction to myself since this video, so I'm quite a bit more aerodynamic nowadays than what you see in this video.

Anyways, if you ever get a chance to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, whether that's Summer or Winter, do it! There's plenty of camping and hiking to waterfalls and beautiful views to keep you infinitely enthralled!

It's obviously winter, so it's very brown and dead looking right now, but when the Blue Ridge Mountains are in full Spring and Summer, the green vegetation views are simply incredible!

These pictures were taken at Apple Orchard Mountain, which is the highest drivable part of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia at 3,950ft. I adopted this area of the Parkway to keep it clean and tidy from 2018-2019 and it is still trash-free to this day.

Well I reckon I took enough pictures to make a Part 2 of this 5,400 mile road trip across the country and back, so here we go!

While I was in Richmond, VA visiting my Mother, I took a day to escape the Holiday madness of Family and drive up to Mount Joy, Pennsylvania to pick up another set of wheels for the FiST from forum member @Melow. Super nice guy that held onto the wheels for a couple of months until I could come pick them up! Word on the street is, he's got a bunch of stock FiST take-off parts that he might have up for sale soon too! Thanks again Sean!



On the way back to Richmond, I needed some medicine(to deal with Family over the Holidays ), so I picked myself up a bottle of my favorite once a year Holiday Hooch.




I headed down to Virginia Beach, VA(where I was born and raised blocks from the Atlantic Ocean) to visit my Father and more Friends and Family.

These pics were taken overlooking the Atlantic Ocean between 14th and 15th Street at the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier. I spent many a days here inhaling cheeseburgers at Ocean Eddie's Restaurant as a kid/teenager/idiot Surfing and chasing bikini's.





This is overlooking Broad Bay, part of the Lynnhaven River, a tidal estuary on the northern side of Virginia Beach inside of the Chesapeake Bay. I spent most of my high school and early college years in this Bay on Boats and Jet Ski's, chasing even more bikini's. It sure is nice to reminiscence on those times!





Decided to do a little bit of exploring around the area and remembered that I wasn't far from the Historic Adam Thoroughgood House, one of the oldest surviving colonial homes in Virginia Beach, built in 1719. There's no shortage of History in Virginia, as it's literally the melting pot of History.



The house is pretty well covered from view by Magnolia Trees.....






While I was in Va Beach before making the journey back to AZ, the car desperately needed a tire balance and rotation, so I visited DIA Automotive at the recommendation of an old Porsche Shop I used to work for many moons ago. These guys work on a lot of nice tuner cars(if you take a look at their Instagram) and I was in and out within an hour after calling for an appointment the day before.



Grabbed dinner with my Father's side of the Family in Town Center of Va Beach and snapped this picture of the evening's city skyline. The building on the right is the tallest building in VA, the Westin at 508ft tall.



I almost forgot that I purchased a used Pierce 6 point Lower Chassis Brace from a forum member earlier this year that I left in my Father's garage to pickup during my next visit across the country to avoid $170+ in shipping it back to AZ(a stupid quote that I got from a local UPS store), so that got loaded into the car along with the wheels for the journey back home.



Did a complete once over on the car including a fluid and tire check before starting the 2500ish mile trek back West.




Sunset just outside of Lynchburg, VA. Spent the night again at a friend's house in Evington, VA to break up the drive and headed out early the next morning bound for Little Rock, Arkansauce.



I completed the Evington, VA to Little Rock, AR leg of the trip(882 miles) in 13hrs and 12mins which gave me an average of 66.8mph, which is actually not bad compared to the trip East, because Tennessee traffic occurred again.

This was a fresh start out of Little Rock, AR heading West the next morning. Long day/night ahead with Google Maps predicting a 1:06am arrival into Prescott, AZ!




I think the car was being a little optimistic on my average MPG during this trip, which was also not a priority as much as time/distance was. To be fair I don't think it was too far off from this, though.




That Jeep Cherokee XJ is definitely the one pushing.



The only Twisters that I saw driving through Oklahoma....



If you've never had the chance to drive a G-Wagen, they're like driving a bank vault and I love them, but not enough to own one.




Found the sunset just East of Albuquerque, NM. Going the distance, going for speeeeeed. (Yes, the windshield is getting replaced soon)



I arrived home in Prescott, AZ in a hair over 19hrs at around 2:30am, about 90mins behind schedule after dealing with 3in of snow on I-17 South out of Flagstaff, AZ, which murdered my average MPH down to 67.5mph over 1,282 miles.

I got up about 11am the next morning to around 18 degrees ambient to change the engine and gearbox oil(Gearbox gets changed at 15K or every 3rd oil change), clean my ITG Foam Air Filter w/ the PJ1 Kit, as well as install the new magnetic drain plug in the gearbox from @ron@whoosh. As much as I would've loved to have done this work inside of my nice warm garage, it's currently still occupied by my Jeep.




The beginning mileage of this trip was 23,842 miles, ending the trip at 29,241 miles.

That concludes 5,399 miles on the FiST, over 14 days, 9 States and this car didn't miss a beat! I bought this car because I love to drive, and I knew this car would take me just about anywhere reliably, while having a lot of fun, and so far it has!

I love adventures in this car and though I didn't document this trip in much detail, maybe this'll inspire some of you to go take a few adventures of your own in your car!

Same here, as I'd love to revisit the attending college town of my youth (Tucson, U of Arizona) to see what it's like now.
BTW; at least three residents on my dorm's floor there way back then were from Prescott.

But the once a year, almost 9 hours each way, trip up to work the New England Forest Rally in Newry, Maine will have to suffice for now.

Took my car to the paint and repair shop, RNJ Customs in Northridge, to have my newly painted gloss black wing and silver wing extensions put on. Left off the risers and now there are no rattles. Left my spare wing to be repainted in silver just in case I sell the car and the new owner wants the stock look.

Today, yesterday, and the day before, what I've done to my Fiesta ST is stare at it longingly while it sits in my driveway dusted in snow at -29C waiting for spring to wash away the salt from the roads and give me my fun back. Mine was a car from the wilds of Quebec, and I dare not risk any more salt exposure for fear of causing major rust problems. I've got a fancy new high-accuracy portable 3D scanner on the way, the first job for which will be a scan of the sunroof so I can replace it with a homemade carbon panel for springtime. I'll weigh the difference and post it with pictures at some point. If it works out really well, I may scan the final finished mould and share that also, if there is any interest.
