any builds with a hybrid turbo with the XDI pump and Bosch injectors?

Is all of that really worth it on the factory snail, or are you speaking about, and do you have definite plans for at least an S280?

Port matching the manifold outlet to the turbo inlet, or the head exhaust ports to the honed out manifold inlets?
Conventional wisdom across all of the turbochargered platforms I've ever modded says that increasing exhaust flow reduces spool. But I agree, no point in doing all that work on the stock snail.

Not interested in a hybrid on a bleeding edge tune. I'm shooting for the S280. I'd like to match both head and the turbo inlet to get as close to stock spool as possible.

I still have the stock mani & turbo I bought back in the day when some of us were srambling for cores to send for a certain 'C' turbo (like a certain dark wizard, we don't say his name). I've been looking for a shop to quote the extrude hone work.

s280 spools pretty damn fast already. It really does not need anything more and quite honestly I do not think adding a tubular manifold to it is gonna help enough to matter. Tubular manifolds are for high HP cars and even without one the S280 on injectors and HPFP will pull higher HP numbers than most would use anyways.

I think these guys just don’t realize how many have gone before them and proven you do not need as much as they think.
It reminds me of the 240sx world were guys would strip out their interiors and sound deadening not because they needed too but because race car except it really was their street car. Then they would complain about how noisy the car was. 🤣

I also don’t believe the story of noticing slower spool time on a Whoosh Hybrid those things spool incredibly fast. I drove a buddy‘s and was quite impressed by the quick spool. If it spools slow I would be looking at the tune. As my s280 spools only 500 rpm later than stock and quite honestly thats not a big deal as these guys are making it out to be.

It really comes down to each his own, right? I am incredibly sensitive to my cars' movements and noises. I would absolutely feel a 500 rpm delay and it would bother me. Turbo lag is real and adding more of it is not the goal for some of us. Moving the curve over to the left by 500 rpm (or more) would be great! For me, it's not about the extra power. I just hate lag. All of it. MOAR turbo right now, right now. Even if it only amounts to a reduction of 200 rpm I would take it. Will I have the cash do all I want? Probably not, but ideally, I want some kind of upgraded manifold to hang an S280 off of.

All this talk of useless power down low and spinning tires and all that just need to learn to modulate, IMO. Even now, I RARELY ever, ever flat foot my car. 30% throttle maybe 60 when feeling frisky. I'm creeping up on 50 yrs old and I just don't hammer on my cars like I used to. I'm sure I'd be fine modulating the extra power.

Where are all these people that have gone before posting? I'd love to read some hands-on reviews of the tubular manifolds on these cars. I'm fairly active here and haven't seen these "people"...as in more than one...If you could link us that'd be awesome.

I think spool time is a matter of personal preference.

I feel the exact same about lag! That's why I'm going to throw the tubular manifold on my car. If I could reduce the delay 2-300 RPMS its worth it to me. I dont want to rev the car to more than 3k RPM to get the boost. That's why I didnt get a big turbo. I want the power yesterday! LoL So even if its $700 if I multiply that by the times I used boost before 3500RPM it's absolutely worth it to me. Plus if you multiply the RPMs over the lifetime of the car you will significantly reduce the wear on the engine. Especially if you daily the car.

At the end of the day I agree to each his own. I'm just the type that doesn't like to wait for power. Hell, I was even considering putting a supercharger on the car but don't know if anyone even has parts for it.

I'm running an Airtec manifold with an S280, getting close to final tuning revision. What do you want to know? Want links to vDyno or something?

A log of rpm vs boost would be great! No need for a fancy vDyno chart. Just some hard numbers to stare at in a spreadsheet and compare to a log of my tuned oem setup.

It may not be the most absolute scientific approach considering differences in ambient temp, elevation, and such but it should be good enough to ballpark and debate.

I think I'm similar, around 27-30 psi by 3600-3800ish RPM.

Take a datalog of what you are running now and we can load it into Datazap, gives us another data point of upgraded manifold vs stock manifold.

After reading Jason’s post, would a single port kit also have a drop in fuel rail pressure comparing to the uprated injectors and oem pump setup? Or does that mostly apply to ethanol blends? I was wanting to go single port running just running 93 in the future and grabbing me a s280 to move on from my whoosh hybrid (turbo has 70k miles atm.

Can't help but have a big grin on your face everytime it comes on, even if there is a tad bit more lag vs stock turbo.

I'm wondering if the lag is truly there or if the ceiling is that much higher so it is perceived as lag? More data gathering needed.

Honestly I'd bet that even in that 2800-3500 RPM "wait period" for the full spool, that you probably still make more power than a stock turbo in the same RPM, but we'd need dyno comparisons to be sure about that.
