For those of you that have installed this kit yourselves, have any of you done it without a lift?
Any tips or things to know?
Is subframe removal necessary?
Thanks much
No it is NOT* required to removed the Sub-frame at ALL* Removal of the cowl will aid in access to the Turbo. Two pairs of hands is Best....But icon be done single handedly. There are multiple threads on removal and install of the Turbo.

It apparently cracked at the mating flange and just fell off lol.

We had an interesting failure with the S280 on our track car. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be posting about it, I can say the engine is ok, but the turbo... not so much lol
Love to know why you feel you can’t publicly post about it and glad you did. I had a X47 fail similarly and it was covered under warranty with no problems other than a long downtime. Did you have to pay to ship it to TT? Any issues with the warranty claim? How soon do you guys expect a replacement? Glad to hear the S280 is being used hard on track. Information like this is helpful to me since I’m in a position to upgrade to a bigger turbo. Thanks for posting the follow up too. The 2860 or G25 is looking better for my purposes.

Ramps or jack stands are all you need. Easiest thing is to take turbo and manifold out from the top together. Install new turbo onto manifold. Drop back in together.

Plenty of room with just the front on jack stands. Everything slides in and out just taking off the cowl. my buddy had a tubular manifold and we put it all in together.
Gotta reuse a couple clamps from the OEM coolant lines. It's a tight fit, but they work. Just make sure you have all the intake/boost hoses and clamps you need before starting on it.

Is a slipping clutch fairly common with these? Mine will be going into a car with 50k miles. I can plan on upgrading the clutch if I need to but i was hoping to do it the same time i got a lsd which funds wise wont be for a minute

My Fiesta was stock until 30k miles and not abused at all by the PO. From 30k-38k it was FBO tuned for E30 and I drove it very hard, but no burnouts or clutch dumps. At 38k I installed the S280 and by 40k my clutch is slipping on hard pulls. I honestly have no idea how all these guys are getting 100k+ running big turbos. Maybe the earlier clutches were a higher quality? I have a 2018.

Mostly just don't want to talk shit or seem like I am shit talking without knowing the specifics as to why the failure occurred.

We had bought a second S280 for our other daily driver in the house, so that is on its way and will be replacing this turbo. The daily will wait until we get this one back or we will just sell it and keep it stock turbo. We will have to pay the shipping to return the unit to TT, we have not been assured that any of the repairs necessary will be covered under any kind of implied or expressed warranty. I am not assuming that TT will cover this damage at all since it had a Tune+ spec WGA (I wonder who it was tuned by) attached at the time of failure and we do not intend to try and hide that fact. All TT has told us to do is send the unit back to them and after that we will move along with if it is warranty or not.

Understood. If you would, please let us know what happens in the end. Thank you.

What's the difference between the 280 and 284?
Nothing major. 284 has bespoke silicone inlet and compressor elbow from Peron and comes with a Turbosmart 14 lb actuator and a Turbosmart BPV. Eliminates the BOV/BPV adapter that TT uses. Also has Peron coolant lines I think and the hot side pipe comes powder coated black. Don't believe the turbo itself is changed whatsoever.

You’ll need sticky tires to get accurate 3rd gear logs with the S280. Like 200TW or better.
