Overheating after your shiny new tune

I have read dozens of overheating threads occurring after a tune. Its because you blocked off the radiator with your new bar and plate intercooler not because the tune is "hot". I have had an e30 Dizzy tune for over a year in the 100 degree Florida heat sitting in traffic running my ac on max with my stock radiator and never overheated once...of course I have a Mountune Intercooler (tube and fin style). The kind the car war designed and tested for. Additionally I have weather stripped the radiator shroud with some Home Depot stripping to maximize flow through the fins when the fans kick on. I used to have a Sentra Spec V which I put a turbo on, and it would overheat when sitting in traffic with a Koyo radiator, so I went about trouble shooting. First Koyo racing radiator, then high performance Spahl fans then weather stripped the shroud. The last one did the trick so i know it definitely helps. 20200513_103424.jpg

The Mountune intercooler is a bar and plate, but hold on a second when it first came out it was tube and fin. They realized that was not working for the US market, and they changed it to a bar and plate I know I have one.

I've seen a few members also post about filling in those gaps. I haven't had any overheating issues yet but would like to look at doing the same. Don't know much about weather stripping, any advice on what size, thickness etc works well? I am checking youtube to see if there are any videos on it now.

My Mountune intercooler is bar and plate. I never overheated on stock radiator on dizzy e30. Adding Mountune radiator kept temps way down though.

I just got my first temp warning ever this weekend. 100 degree day in Minnesota (yes, strange, record-breaking weather). I was not nannying the throttle. I am running a stock turbo, E30 Dizzy tune. I have a Whoosh v1 intercooler. Any ideas which intercoolers are bar/plate vs tube/fin? It'd be a great resource to put a list together.

those pictures dont explain anything from what is shown. there are no descriptions of what it is or what vehicle its designed for.

Keep believe they did not change the intercooler when everyone else knows they did old news. Regardless of a description on their website that they probably did not update.

I have the darn intercooler. All of those pictures are for a Fiesta ST some of us actually trust people. Sorry you don't.

Hello, wondering if you can tell me the functional differences between 2364-IC-BA and 2364-IC-BA1? Is one more suitable than the other for use in support of the Fiesta MRX turbo?​

It seems like cooling problems are hit or miss on these cars. I overheated on the stock tune/stock IC when driving up a mountain road. Upgrading to a Mountune radiator fixed all my problems and I have not spent much time over 200' while running a Stratified E30 tune and a Depo bar-and-plate IC, whether in stop-and-go or driving hard.

I don't really understand the point of this thread. Not sure if you came to take a dump on other FMIC's or if you're just convinced that nobody should have cooling problems because you don't...

If you have cooling problems, regardless of your mods/tune, upgrade your radiator. It's very common to have cooling problems on these cars.

Maybe the bit in the description is an artifact from the previous iterations. They list the BA1 part number on the intercooler only page, and BA2 on the intercooler kit page, too. Probably just sloppy version control/housekeeping on their website.

At any rate, it looks like they have had 3 versions of the intercooler. How did this turn into a mountune archeology thread? lmao

I cringe when i see that dirty ugly plastic coolant tank still in their engine bay after they spend thousands on power and suspension mods....... That was my first mod, metal coolant tank! That plastic trash should have never been put in these cars. Then the crappy coolant hoses kept blowing.. [emoji849]

Late reply, but does a metal coolant tank do anything? I mean, is there any benefit to it aside from looking better?
