That is absolutely the ugliest car I have ever seen. The front looks like ricer mods 10 years ago for over sized IC's. The Japanese designers have some horrible taste in design. Could be the greatest hot hatch in history beside the FiST but I can't do ugly! And yes I like the design of our FiST....not a single square inch of plastic chrome. Was behind a new car the other day and was laughing at all the fake chrome trash on the car.

I doubt it since it's joint event from Toyota and Subaru and since Subaru already unveiled the new BRZ months ago, that would make no sense at all.

The review I watched on youtube stated they are doing some form of kickoff or unveiling on 4/5/21. Also it will be all wheel drive, manual and turbo.

I was also reading about Toyota delaying the unveil of the GT86 and that it would be different from the BRZ so it could be the 86. The comment above though has me hoping it’s not and an awd hatch is what’s being revealed. That’s the only logical car I would sell the Fist for.

You're in the ballpark of what other's are thinking as well.

^^^That pic of the blue one in that article in that video looks pretty good to me, style wise, despite being a 4 door. [wink] [thumb]

One thing he has not considered/mentioned is that for 2022, the WRC is mandating a 'spec' hybrid add-on drive train to the cars, and although these cars do NOT have to be based on an identically setup street car (NO 'homologation' required), ToyBaru might want to capitalize on the world wide publicity of that.

Hence, this new car could possibly be a 'performance hybrid', which he did not even consider in his dissertation of speculation about the power/drive train of this new joint venture.

I had a Peugeot 208 GT and I loved the design of that car. Difficult to find other hot hatches with that sleeper feel.

Hopefully in 5 days we will know more and they aren't going to give us a progressively more revealing photo over the next 6 months like some swanky peep show!

I'm going to say:
- 200hp, small AWD hatch, manual trans, 25k price point, boxer motor.

I think Toyota and Subaru are actively trying to fill in the void the Fiesta ST left with something a little more bang for the buck

If it is even a little bit smaller/lighter than the current Corolla, that should be a winner, maybe not in sales, but in enthusiasm from enthusiasts. [wink]

I believe the only new hot hatches currently selling in USA are:

Cool level:
  • Honda Civic Sport Touring Hatchback [29k]
  • Mazda Mazda3 2.5 S Hatchback [22k]
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI [29k-37k]
  • Mini Cooper S Hardtop [26k]
Hot level:
  • Hyundai Veloster N [32k]
  • Mini Cooper JCW Clubman [39k]
  • Honda Civic Type-R [38k]
Not hatch, but compact cool/hot car:
  • Subaru WRX [27k]
  • Subaru WRX STI [37k]
I really don't know where Subaru/Toyota would like to place their new car... a cool & hot pocket car would be great! But hard market in USA.

Fixed that for you.

I don't know why you had the N in the "cool" level when its clearly competing with the CTR, JCW, and Mk7/7.5 Golf R. The WRX/STi isn't a hatch at all and is sort of alone in what it is. I might be slightly biased, but the Veloster N doesn't really compete with any of the cars you have in the "cool" section.

Its a shame we wont get the Yaris GR, and its a shame that the Corolla GR would likely be FWD.

Was thinking the same thing on your assessment of the N. I agree w/ the rearrange.

I think the Civic Si hatchback is returning for the next gen civic. I imagine honda will keep price point of that at ~$25k.

I still think this new Toyo-Baru hatchis going to be a budget AWD competitor to the Si and others in that price point.

I updated the list following your suggestions:
  • Moved Veloster N to the hot category
  • Included the Mazda3 Hatch in the cool category
  • Created a new category just for Subaru WRX
