Broke my second engine cover trying to diagnose a squealing sound under the hood 😭.

I may need a new blower motor, as the squeak went away when i shut the interior fan off.
Idk my car seems like it needs so much work to get it back to where it was.

As usual, the service manual wants you to take apart half the car to do the simplest of jobs.

Id love to get a service manual, nope dont habe a thread, i was just popping it off the support pegs to get a better listen and see if it was a loose vacuum line or something and it shattered due to how cold it is here. Just kinda put the icing on the FU its cold out cake. 🙁. Blower motor still works. Its just starting to make noise after 5 years.

I was worried it was the idler/ tensioner for the belt as ive had that seize up and blow apart on an older car.

I drive with the hood down, so i don't see the rat's nest...lol. As an older drive, I've learned to just let some things go...

I do too but when i open the hood it just kinda bugs me. Idk, im used to seeing clean valve covers and wiring ran neatly. Which is difficult on newer engines.

I grew up seeing V-8s and a few straight sixes. Yes, engines and bays are no longer for viewing. It doesn't matter though. Times change.

Vega makes a metal cover. Not too expensive either in raw finish. Looks like thats the first of this year's car purchases. Then its tires, timing stuff, bigger front swaybar, por 15 and undercoating.


Then i gotta do suspension and brakes on the golf and brakes on mine.

Maybe next year a crazier setup. I feel like i shouldnt give up just yet.

Put in new reverse LED lights in my Spec D tail lights. The others lasted about 3 years! Re-did the gaskets I fashioned also as they are a one time use.

I'd recommend creating your own thread for this. I assume it worked and then quit working. The OEM LEDs aren't really designed to be serviceable. Presumably it all runs on twelve volt which does mean it should be easy to test for wiring shorts; once you map out the wires. You can also use resistance tests on the volt meter to compare the working side, to the non-working side. LEDs, unless they're being run too hot or overloaded, generally don't fail. So I doubt that they're gone; more especially since you lost multiple all at once. If it's not the wiring then it's the controller. Controllers in general often suffer from poor solder joints on the PCB. Either way you'll likely have to end up splitting the lamp open. Again, recommend starting your own thread.

Finally got my summer tires off (absurd, I know). I haven't driven the car since the temps have been consistently below 45F.

Went with a nice, meaty 205/55R16 at 25" tall (BFG Sport Comp 2 A/S Plus this time around).

And a bonus photo of the reason I don't need to drive the fiesta in the winter time now..

I rub occasionally on winter tires an inch shorter, stock height, in 205/50. I don't know how you're managing 205/55, haha.

He has self machined, top of strut/damper spacers mounted on top of his suspension (which is factory springs on B6es, NOT exactly 'low' to begin with!), raising the car over factory ride height by about .75".
