Tire size check.

Hi guys, my name is Austin. I been restoring a old ford EXP and in the process I have ended up with a few sets of 15” escort GT wheels. Last time I rotated my tires I test fitted one on my 2019 fiesta S 5 speed (poor mans st) It actually far faster and handles far better then the SE models.

Ant I thought why not put a set of the old GT wheels on my fiesta. They look better then the stock steels.
Problem is they are all 7” wide wheels so the stock 185/60r15s will not safely fit. The closest size that will fit is 195/55r15 witch I know will fit the wheel. But what about the fiesta? Will 195/55r15 rub at all? I know the STs use ether 195/50r16 or 205/45r17 or something like that? But I have no clue is a S trim model will fit a 195/55r15. I cant see it being different.

Any advice will be very appreciate.

195-60/15 will fit fine and so will 205-45 /15 or 205/50 15. I'm running 205-50/16 on my ST and have no issues with rub at all. Note, the offset may become an issue with the larger 205/50-15 but I've running a 43mm offset on my 16 inch wheels. You may want to check your Escort wheels and see what the offset for that wheel is. If it's in the range of 40-45mm it will probably be ok.

Are you sure the Escort GT wheels aren't 15x5.5 or 15x6.5? Also, I think they're 4x100 and not 4x108 like the Fiesta (S,SE,ST) uses.

There really is no reason for that size tire to not fit.

The non ST cars sit a little bit higher than the STs, the suspension clearances should not be that different (albeit the non-ST cars use a different front knuckle/upright), and the base NA Fiesta tires were in some cases taller than that tire size, even though yes, narrower.

The body is the same on all Fiestas. You should be able to fit a 205 section tire with no trouble at all, as that's the stock section width on the ST. Diameter-wise, the 185/60-15 is 23.7". A 205/50-15 is 23.9". That's pretty darn close. A 195/55-15 is 23.4", which is also close and might have the advantage of giving a little lower gearing overall. In addition there are far more tire choices in a 195 and they are cheaper in general.

Before we bought the ST, we test drove a base Fiesta with the 1.6, but they only had auto transmissions on the lot. The car felt good in general but the auto transmission sucked. I felt like with 120 hp and a 5 or 6 speed, the car would actually be pretty fun to drive. With the tires you're considering it would be that much better and you could even get a set of performance shocks and struts from Ford Performance to uprate the handling. If there had been an ST-Line with manual trans ever made, that could actually be a lot of fun even though it's not as fast as the ST.

Back in 1978 the Mk 1 Fiesta I had started out with 66 hp, but with the judicious use of Formula Ford-based parts, I got it up to about 100 hp. Went from 155SR12 tires to 195/55VR13 P7's and then 185/60HR13 Yokohama A001R's. Lowered an inch and Konis, plus front and rear sway bars. And that was a blast to drive. You could go 10/10ths on the road.

The first and only one I've ever seen 'in the wild' at a local supermarket parking lot 2 days ago, was most definitely a manual.

I saw one at the dealer last year and fell in love with the HOT PEPPER RED METALLIC TINTED CLEARCOAT. Normally I HATE red cars and avoid them. I've never had one. If I had a money tree, I'd have my boring grey painted.

I love colored cars. I drive a white truck for work, but get tired of all cars being silver, gray and black. My Mk. 1 Fiesta was bright yellow, and I added a red to orange spectrum stripe to the front and sides. I got excited when I saw that Fiesta STs could come in Hot Pepper Red and Spice Orange and Blue and Envy Green. Emphasis on COULD. When I was looking they were all gray, black or white. Only one orange one within range but they wouldn't play nice with my local dealer for a trade.

Scooter123, our stock suspension w/those 205/50-16's and 43mm offset? Even on extreme/max suspension travel/cornering?

Which tire did you choose or ones have you used and why? The tire selection is much broader in that size.

I'll be at 44.5mm offset on a 6.5" wide wheel. I would like the taller sidewall for comfortable DD, but still want to be able to throw it into some twisties on the way to work...
