Remove/replace full size spare for weight savings?

Tell me more how much 25 lbs makes you faster. Please
Like I said before, I haven't had the opportunity or inclination to test it side by side, but you have piqued my interest, so I turned to one of those online 0-60 calculators.
If you enter in stock figures, you get this:
stock_0-60.PNG
Which is a little faster than what many sources claim the stock 0-60 is.
As discussed before, the spare and jack weigh about 40 lbs, but lets go with the 25 pounds you suggested, Egg:

Sure, this is just a blast from 0-60 (and a modeled one at at that), but lighter weight helps in all aspects of of performance- braking and turning as well as acceleration.
Some people would say that 45 thousandths of a second is minimal, but I have been in numerous autocross events where the gaps were even smaller.
I think you can get too obsessive about weight savings, but losing 25 or 40 pounds would have real world effects.
That being said, do whatever makes you happy.

AND ONCE AGAIN I WILL STATES, WHATEVER YOU SAVE IS NOT WORTH THE INCONVENIENCE
Ok, good for you. Those are some very valid points.(y)

Anyway.. If you go from a full size spare 36+ lbs to the much lighter 8 spoke there are multiple possible(don't want to upset the naysayers) benefits and 1 that @D1JL mentioned is a huge perk. You get so much more room in the back as well. The floor panel actually seats on the floor which is quite a nice amount of extra space to have

I went with a lighter alloy space saver spare from a Fiesta SE. U can order from EBay for around 80$. I forgot the exact weight difference but when u try to pick it up u notice it. Up to u if it’s worth it. I think it was worth it to me.

I did the same. One of the first "mods" I did to my car.

One of the problems I had when downsizing to a space saver wheel from a standard size spare was the pin holder that holds the wheel down needs to be shortened or maybe u can just buy the SE pin part from Ford parts. In the future I want to downsize my battery too to save some weight. Someone on the forum put a Miata battery in his Fiesta.

Just make a spacer out any small diameter plastic or aluminum tubing.

I run an antigravity atx-20 battery half the time. Works quite well

^^^Yeah those of you out there living in the more torrid climates of this land can get away with a lower capacity, lower everything, lighter battery.

Those of us daily driving our rides in places with actual COLD temps/real winters, not so much. [:(]

There’s a dude angry about people removing their spare 😂

@Mikey456 thanks for that suggestion. It’s a great idea. My broken back thanks you as well lol.
I am NOT defending what he is saying about jack/spare weight reduction, but, he cannot use lower case at all while at his work computer during the day (I don't know why a workplace would be set up like that, but that's his situation).

If you'll notice, when he posts after 5:00 or 6:00 his time, he uses normal lower case text in his posts. [wink]

I have AAA, but sometimes I drive around the streets on tires as sticky as what you autocross on, which as you know are road shrapnel SUPER MAGNETS, so I would be waiting (sometimes for MANY hours in this area!) for a flatbed to carry me home, just not worth the trouble.

The battery relocate I have thought about, but between the current drop, yes, even with huge gauge wire, and the running of that gigantic wire into/through the interior, was just not worth it to me. [:(]
You shouldn't really experience any current drop if you upsize your cable appropriately. Fine stranded copper can be expensive though.

This is without wheels on the car (16x8 Dekagrams and 205/45 RS-Pros), half a tank and no back seat, belts, brackets, speakers, spare, wiper, washer res etc. All other interior plastics though. Should be around 2,680 with wheels. You do feel the weight loss when it comes to acceleration and autocross. The car probably makes like 220whp it needs all the help it can get lol

Wow. That battery is pricey too. Isn’t that around $600?
